Campus Students file tax returns online ahead of Thursday deadline

The taxman has reported that 1.2 million Kenyans have filed their annual returns through the iTax system.

The Kenya Revenue Authority has a database of 8.1 million taxpayers but only 1.6 million filed returns in 2015.

In a statement on Tuesday, acting domestic taxes commissioner Benson Korongo said they have been receiving approximately 70,000 returns daily.

"The system gives taxpayers the luxury of filing returns from the comfort of their homes or offices at any hour of day or night," he noted.

Korongo said the number is expected to rise as taxpayers make efforts to meet the Thursday deadline.

He said the Kenya Revenue Authority has set up 21 iTax support centres and has presence in 37 Huduma Centres.

"Three more centres are set to be opened up this week in Central," he said.
The commissioner added that the authority has trained more than 40,000 Kenyans on how to file their tax returns online.

He urged taxpayers to seek assistance at the support centres across the country.
Korongo said more centres countrywide will be opened for longer hours ahead of the deadline.

A senior official of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has been suspended after his girlfriend, unbeknownst to him, wore his clothes in his absence, took photos and posted them online.

The pretty girl’s photos went viral on Facebook as most of the people who re-shared them thought that she was an officer like many others. That is where the  tale about impersonation came in.

When the photos go the attention of the officer’s superiors and the uniform was identified as his, it is alleged that he was called in and had a long sitting with his bosses.

The girl who is alleged to have caused the suspension of a KDF captain when she borrowed his uniform to take photos with.

Unconfirmed reports have it that the officer was suspended  from active duty for leasing out his official military regalia for wrong use- in this case, social media.

The Legacy-MU Pub however established that there is no  rule in the books that would have a KDF Captain suspended because his wife wore his uniform and posed for photos.

Action would only be taken if the said uniform was leased for use in criminal activities or any  related activity that would contravene what is generally accepted as right.

Hot Kenyan police officer of a few days ago says that he is  in trouble with his superiors. A spate of his photos presumed to be attractive by the Kenyan female populace broke the internet with scores of women demanding to be arrested by him.

He has since been identified as, Steve Karisa. An administration police and an ardent gym addict.

When speaking to Word is on an interview, the police officer said that his instant fame engendered trouble with his bosses who are particular with media attention.

Police reshuffle: Find out top commanders' new posts

Former police spokeswoman Zipporah Mboroki has been named Lari OCPD in the new police reshuffle.

Geoffrey Maiyek takes over as Buruburu OCPD from Richard Kerich, who is the new Nairobi County deputy commander.

Paterson Maelo has been named new Mombasa county commander and Manase Musyoka Garissa county police commander.

"They have been posted to Mombasa and Garissa to help in managing insecurity incidents that are fluctuating," read a statement released on Tuesday.
Rop Kipkemboi has taken over as Taita Taveta county police boss while Julius Wanjohi remains Coast regional police boss.

Tom Odera is the new boss in Kajiado county while Mary Omari has been moved to Tharaka Nithi.

Among those named in the changes include Mohamed Hapi (deputy director reforms), Julius Kitili (director reforms), Andrew Aramisi (Nyanza traffic boss).
Others are Joseph Muthee (Rift Valley traffic boss) and OCPDs Tom Atuti (Kiambu), Stephen Cheteka (Changamwe), Joshua Omukata (Nakuru), Hussein Arur (Kirinyaga East) and Justus Kitetu (Kericho).

Nairobi CID boss Nicholas Kamwende, who was named new Coast regional coordinator on February 7, was recalled in another phase of the reshuffle.
Kamwende, who earlier headed the Anti-Terror Police Unit, had been transferred alongside three other CID bosses.

Raila kin vouches fairplay for 2017 women governorship aspirants

Kenya network of women governors wants political parties to give women a fair opportunity in the battle for governorship seats in the country.

Ruth Odinga, chairperson of the network and Kisumu deputy governor, said it was a sad affair that no single woman was elected governor in the 2013 elections.

Of the 47 counties, only nine governors chose female running mates now serving as their deputies.

Ruth has said she will run for Kisumu governor in 2017.
"I want to tell the political parties to ensure level playing ground for women running for governor," Ruth said.

In Migori County, Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga’s wife Anne has declared interest in the seat.

Speaking at a funeral in Kisumu on Saturday, nominated MCA Ben Ombima said Anne has what it takes to be Migori Governor.

“She (Anne) tried it in 2013 and was made a running mate but her camp did not succeed, it is therefore in order to elevate such aspiring women governors to leadership positions without discrimination,” Ombima said.

He pointed out that having all women go for deputy governors remains discriminatory against the female folk.

During Luo cultural ceremony in Kisumu early this year, Cord leader Raila Odinga hinted that ODM may allow female leaders to deputize male governors and vice versa in 2017.

Raila said this will give an opportunity for more women to serve in top leadership of the counties, further assuring the group of level playing ground for all aspirants.

At least seven women have declared interest to run for governor in 2017, and are optimistic of winning the seats.

The lobbyists across the country see 2017 as a chance to break into the men-only club, that is the council of governors.
The Kenya Network of Women Governors will identify and campaign for viable candidates.

Apart from Ruth and Anne, other women seeking to run for Governor include; Joyce Laboso (Bomet), Cecily Mbarire (Embu), Margaret Kamar (Uasin Gishu), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos) and Margaret Wanjiru (Nairobi.)
Eight women contested the position at the 2013 general election; 19 others sought seats in the Senate but none was elected.

Some 165 women battled it out among the men for Parliament's 290 regular constituency seats, while 155 women sought one of the woman representative positions.

Ruth said there is need for Kenya to have more women in elective positions.

5 easy steps Ankara styles bag tutorial:

Step #1: get the bag ready

You need to do few things to the old bag. First of all, carefully remove the clamp, but do not break it. You will need to put it back in place later on. And you need to remove all the dirt, peeling leather or oil from the purse. First, wash it well with a soft wet cloth. Then use some window cleaning spray on it to get rid of any possible dirt or oily stuff for the glue to stick better to it.

Tear off the lining on the top of the bag and the edges. You are going to put the Ankara over-measure under it. You are done!



Step #2: Get the measurements for your Ankara fabric

That’s easy with a clutch bag. First of all, fit the fabric to the purse to see how the Ankara pattern fits it. Then measure a piece that would cover the whole clutch and leave over-measure on each side. Let’s say leave extra 5 cm on each side to make the refashion job easier.

Step #3: Glue it down

It’s a no-sew DIY project, perfect for those who do not have a sewing marching or have no skills at it. You may either use your hot glue gun or if you do not have one, just get some instant glue or transparent glue for fabric.

Apply some glue on the bag, where you wish to put the Ankara fabric. Use clothes pegs once you clip the fabric over the edge of the bag. Fit the fabric nicely with no wrinkles onto the surface. Using regular fabric glue is the best, as it gives you more time for adjustments. The instant one dries up faster, but if you are a newbie, it may dry up too fast.

Basically, you need to cover all the outer surfaces of the purse with Ankara. And wrap the over-measure inside to fasten it there.



Step #4: Return the clamp in its place

Cut a small hole in the Ankara where the clamp has to fit. Put it back and use some glue to make sure the fabric won’t come off from under it.





Step #5: Put back the lining

Once you clipped the over-measure and tucked it in, you can put back the lining so that no one would see the untidy ends of the Ankara fabric. Let the glue dry up well and you are ready to go!



As you see, this is an easy purse refashion project. Ankara fabric is not that costly, and the glue is cheap. You can get as many of these stylish accessories as you like, spending just a little time on crafting.

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini recognises the shift in momentum and says that it is now Spain who are Italy’s “bogey team”.

“The beginning of their golden period coincided with their win over us in 2008. It was only in Kiev [the 4-0 defeat in the Euro 2012 final] that we weren’t able to give them a game, we hadn’t been able to recover from our game against Germany,” he said.

Rwathia boys built business empire worth billions

Gerald Gikonyo with his wife. The companies he co-founded with friends and relatives mainly from his Rwathia village in Murang’a County started with his first salary of Sh4. His current abode is in one of his hotels in the city centre from where he keeps the wheels of his companies humming along.

A senior lecture in one of the leading universities wrote in his article that a particular village in Kenya controls a good percentage of Kenya’s wealth.
Dr  Bitange  Ndemo,  a  senior  lecturer  at  the University of Nairobi’s Business School, pointed out that the  most  successful  business  people  in  Kenya  or  East  Africa  come  from  Rwathia village.
Rwathia Village is in Kangema, Muranga County.


The  new  generation  of  Rwathia  boys  include  Equity  Bank  Chairman  Peter  Munga, Equity Bank CEO    James Mwangi, billionaire investment banker Jimnah Mbaru and insurance magnate Benson Wairegi.
Ndemo in a  2014 article title The Mystery of Success, he expains that Rwathie controls almost 20 per cent of GDP and nearly half of stock market in the country.

“This village arguably controls almost 20 per cent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)  and  almost  40  per  cent  of  the  stock market  in  Kenya,”

“Their  forebearers like Gerishon Kirima and Gerald Gikonyo, one of the co-founders of Rwathia Distributors, were successful in spite of the fact that they had limited education. Moi University Staff Call for the Sacking of Prof. Richard Mibey as VC.

The Universities Academic Staff Union says Moi University has failed to remit statutory deductions for workers amounting to more than Sh1 billion.

The union said the university had not been remitting the statutory deductions to the NSSF, NHIF and other employee organisations for many years.
It wants a new vice chancellor appointed to end wrangles.

Anti-riot police were deployed after staff and students threatened to protest against the reinstatement of vice chancellor Richard Mibei.

Prof Mibei left the university two weeks ago after his term ended, but returned last Friday under unclear circumstances. He had proceeded on terminal leave and was to return in three months to hand over to his successor.

The Uasu Moi University Chapter secretary, Prof Jack Abok, said Mibei’s tenure as VC expired and his reinstatement by the government was illegal.

The recruitment process for a new VC has been completed and Education CS Fred Matiang’i is expected to name the new institution head.

Abok yesterday said tension is rising and acting VC Fabian Esamai should be allowed to take charge until a new VC is appointed.

“It’s wrong for the government to deploy police at the university instead of listening to the grievances we have raised and restoring order,” Abok said.

He said academic programmes have been interfered with because of poor management. “The interests of an individual should not supersede the welfare and lives of more than 40,000 students, lecturers and workers, among other Kenyans who depend on Moi University,” Abok said.

Uasu officials claim high-level graft had led to the loss of billions of shillings at the university and the EACC should probe it.

Yesterday, police camped at the university as reports indicated that both Mibei and Esamai were working in two separate offices. The management crisis has caused operations at the university to stall.

UASU-MOI UNIVERSITY CHAPTER WRITES TO EACC OVER GRAFT CLAIMS

The universities academic staff union has now written to the EACC asking for investigations into claims of Sh5billion graft at Moi University.

UASU secretary general Jack Abok on Saturday said they have presented a seven-page document detailing areas they want to be investigated.

"We have a seven-page document which elucidates the problems we have been facing due to financial mismanagement and we have sent the copies to the relevant bodies. We hope action is taken fast because there is the habit of spending money to cover up on the wrongs already done," he said.

The university is also caught up in a management row after staff and students rejected the reinstated of former VC Richard Mibei who had retired.

Abok said the loss of funds and misuse happened during the reign of Prof Mibey, an issue that made them engage the University Council in a bid to redeem the institution.

"Moi University is on the verge of plunging deeper into a management crisis and needs urgent intervention from government and other stakeholders. We engaged the council over these issues and among its resolutions was to send Prof Mibey on terminal leave, but it has allowed him to return on unknown grounds," he said.

According to Abok, learning facilities in the institution cannot sufficiently cater for the large number of students besides the neglect of lecturers' welfare.

In March, students of the University rioted against the two-month absence of lecturers over a salary dispute.

The West campus students destroyed a bus and threw stones at buildings before anti-riot police were called in, arresting more than 30 of them.

The university's director of the Privately Sponsored Students Programme, who is also in charge of the campus, said the problem was being addressed.

Student leader Kipng'eno Ruto faulted the university for not paying lecturers, saying more than Sh200 million in school fees was collected.

"The lecturers say they have not been paid for months and some are owed up to Sh2 million in arrears. We are wondering why they are not being paid yet we have paid fees," Ruto said.

Tension in Mandera after al-Shabaab attack

Suspected al-Shabaab militants  ambushed on Monday, June 20, a police vehicle killing five police officers.

The police vehicle and the bodies of the police officers were completely burnt after the deadly ambush by the terror group.

The attack occurred at village of Dabacity, ElWak in Mandera county.

Al-Shabaab has used the porous border between Kenya and Somalia to infiltrate the country and carry out random attacks on civilian and government facilities.
The government in March, 2016, had given a security alert of areas in Kenya that could be prone to al-Shabaab attacks.

ElWak in Mandera county was cited as an area under the risk of al-Shabaab incursions and attacks.

COMRADES DIVIDED OVER DEMO

Perhaps goons were excited by the academics Director – Jairo Moses’ announcement of a mother of all demonstrations on Monday 20th June. The objective being to pressurize for the release of missing marks and academic results of students especially from the schools of education and Arts and Social Sciences.

According to the information posted on his Face book timeline, Jairo announced that all classes would be suspended and all academic activities paralyzed forthwith until the demand are met. The message was received by comrades differently especially on the Facebook Page Real Comrades of Main Campus where it was shared and discussed extensively. The always united comrades fraternity got divided into pro demo and anti - demo with each pact trying to convince the neutral ones.

A group which tended to represent second years supported the demo terming that it would be as peaceful and objective as possible.
However, there was a twist hours later when an aspirant in the academics docket posted a screenshot of his chat with the Dean School of Arts and Social Sciences, where the dean assured that the transcripts would be printed by Monday. This meant that the demonstration would be unnecessary

The Secretary General to Moi University Education Students Association (MUESA) again posted a memo with an anti-demo message. He stated that he had met the classesreps from the school of education and resolved to use other means to get their marks apart from the demo. According to Ojwang’, the class reps meeting resolved to follow the marks from the Head of Departments and not from the streets.

Nobody knows which side is stronger but it’s a reality that we are being used for either good or bad. With the political temperatures rising, demos are inevitable but we must make our decisions wisely.

Hatua hii ilisutwa na wanahabari, wanasiasa na makundi ya kutetea haki kutoka Afrika Kusini. Hata hivyo matokeo ya vipimo hivyo hayakutangazwa kwa manufaa ya heshima kwa Semenya.
Mwaka jana Semenya alifunga pingu za maisha na mpenziwe wa muda mrefu, Violet Raseboya na wenyeji wa kijiji cha mwanariadha huyo waliisifu ndoa hiyo ya jinsia moja ambayo haichukuliwi vyema huku Afrika. Semenya alivaa mavazi ya kiume huku Violet akivaa vazi la kitamaduni la kike.
Fununu zilitokea mwaka jana kuwa vipimo alivyofanyiwa Semenya, vilionyesha kuwa ana sifa za mwanaume. RAILA FORGIVES MOSES KURIA

Former Prime minister Rt Hon.Raila Odinga, last Friday, forgave the notorious Gatundu South MP Hon.Moses Kuria for his reckless statement that 'Raila should be killed'.Speaking before a congregation in the Kilimami law court, Raila added that 'he who wants to kill does not say' and that Moses Kuria must have been entertaining his audience. However, since Kuria's sentiments entered the news airwaves, the political activist, like myself, have delved deep into Kuria's political life only to realize that Raila had been a 'saviour' to Hon.Kuria at one point.
Hon Moses Kuria comes across as a man with so much hate and contempt against the Luo community and Cord leader, Raila Odinga. But unknown to many Kenyans, it is Raila who interceded and helped Kuria to be re-admitted to the University of Nairobi after he was suspended together with other student leaders.A source close to Kuria intimated that when the MP and his colleagues were ejected by the university’s senate, it is Raila who gave Kuria some money and instructed the late Otieno Kajwang’ to represent the student leaders in court.
“I can confirm that Raila gave Kuria Sh4000 and paid Kajwang to represent the students in court.I can also confirm that on Saturday January 20, 1995, Kuria attended Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s first anniversary and slept in Raila’s Opoda Farm home in Bondo,” the source who did not wish to speak on record revealed.
Another source, who refused to be identified due to the sensitivity of this story, confirmed that it is true that lawyer Otieno Kajwang’ represented Kuria in court for close to a year, until Justice Mwera threw out the case and ordered the university to re-admit Kuria and his ccolleagues
“Raila gave them Otieno Kajwang’ until the court ordered the university to re-admit Kuria and other student leaders back,” he said.
In the process of pecking the sources, the activists decided to contact Raila in an attempt to hear it from the horse's mouth. However, Agwambo refused to comment on any matter touching on Kuria.
“I don’t want to speak about these things. I don’t want to speak about Moses Kuria,” the Cord leader said through one of his spokespersons.

MASSIVE ARREST OF MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

Massive arrest of Members of Parliament from both sides of the political divide has been the contemporary issue since yesterday and still trending in the media airwaves after the victims made statements that are tantamount to hate speech. This has driven the attention of Kenyans from the IEBC fiasco to the rising political temperatures as the clock ticks towards 2017.
On one hand, Machakos Senator Hon Johnstone Muthama, Suna East MP Hon.Junet Mohammed and the fiery Kitutu Masaba MP Hon.Timothy Bosire are the CORD bureaucrats who are currently being held at the CID headquarters in Nairobi waiting to appear before the Kilimani law court today Wednesday 15,2016.On the other hand, the Jubilee affiliate MPs who are sailing in the same boat are: the notorious Gatundu South MP Hon Moses Kuria,Kabet MP Hon Ferdinant Waititu and Bahati MP Hon.Kimani Ngunjiri.
The loudest was Hon.Moses Kuria's claim that 'Raila Odinga should be killed'.This did not auger well with the 'compact majority' of Kenyans in the political spheres, commercial fields, civil society, religious sector as well as the mere citizens. Kuria's sentiment seems to have thrown a spanner in the works with the CORD strongmen like Hon Johnstone Muthama, Junet Mohammed and Timothy Bosire commandeering the war platform in an effort to prevent the Jubilee bark-dog from meddling and tinkering with Raila's personal life.
Too furious were the CORD affiliate victims to the point of using abusive terms in their response to the Jubilee mouthpiece,talk of paying one in his own coin. However, at the end of the day, both the statements from the Jubilee and CORD affiliate MPs were tantamount to hate speech and so they had to be handcuffed and frogmarched to the CID headquarters to record statements.
Senator Johnstone Muthama was accompanied by Senators James Orengo(Siaya) and Omar Hassan (Mombasa) to the CID headquarters. However, he had earlier been placed under house arrest after the police sorrounded his house in Gigiri. The police officers did not allow any movement into and out of his home. Senator Omar Hassan and ODM Communication chief Phil Etale were the only few of Senator Muthama's guests who were allowed by the police into his home before Muthama's lawyer Senior Counsel James Orengo arrived.
Also, there was drama yesterday outside Nation Centre where a heavily armed Flying Squad officers waited for Hon Junet Mohammed. They timed him as he was headed for an interview after fruitless search for him at his home on Monday. However, there was a brief scuffle during the arrest as the police wanted to take the MP to CID headquarters along Kiambu road in their own vehicle but James Orengo, Junet's acting lawyer,insisted on taking his client for questioning.
To hell with the arrest of CORD brigades, the police went for Kitutu Masaba MP Hon.Timothy Bosire who was also joined by a battery of lawyers. Bosire represents the same constituents as the second liberation hero George Moseti Anyonya (one of the famous seven beheaded sisters in the 1970s)
CORD has so far prepared a barrister of lawyers in defense of their people. In addition, the opposition bigwigs Rt Hon. Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka have questioned the government's swiftness in arresting the opposition MPs who stood in defense of Prime minister Raila Odinga and its sluggishness in apprehending the Jubilee MPs like Moses Kuria and Bahati MP Hon. Kimani Ngunjiri who claimed that 'Luos should be ejected from Nakuru' following Raila's grand march to Nakuru to meet his party officials at Donnie Hotel and his address of a mammoth rally at Mkarafuu Grounds.

Elders, ni kama izraili wenye uwezo wa kufisha azma ya kiongozi bora mwenye utendakazi na badala yake kumkumbatia kiongozi mwenye asali mdomoni na shubiri mkononi. Akila yeye asali, sisi anaturambisha shubiri. Yamkinika kuwa, hawa wapuza kwa jina elders hupewa kitu ambacho si kiubwa sana ili wawaidhinishe watu fulani kwa nia pia ya kupata mgao wa pesa anazolipa komredi, ikiwa watu walioidhinishwa watapokezwa fimbo ya uongozi na wanafunzi wa chuo.

*MOI UNIVERSITY VC DRAMATICALLY RETURNS AMID CLAIMS OF RETIREMENT

The row between staff and management at Moi University on Monday took a dramatic twist when outgoing Vice-Chancellor Richard Mibey made an about-turn and took back his position.

University officials denied there was such a development, claiming they were hearing it from the media for the first time.

_“We’ve not heard of anything like that, but we’ll issue an official statement once we get any information,”_ university public relations officer Alfred Wandera told the Nation.

However, a source at the institution contradicted this, claiming Prof Mibey was actually in his office on Monday.

_“I gather he’s been given three months. But I don’t see any picketing taking off. Just whispers in corridors,”_ a university employee, who requested not to be named, told the Nation in reference to an anticipated strike by staff against the VC’s return.

This came as three senior officials at the university were sent on compulsory leave over claims of financial impropriety in the battle to succeed Prof Mibey, whose term is coming to an end.

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU), through its Moi University chapter secretary *JackWillies Akum Abok*, announced that all staff at the university would be in strike mode beginning Monday until the financial impropriety claims are addressed.

Mr Abok said the union is demanding a forensic audit by an external, independent firm, adding that there is lack of transparency in financial management at the university.

_“The university is facing a lot of problems. Non-payment of medical bills incurred by the university staff has led to nearly all hospitals in Eldoret curtailing medical services to Moi University employees, exposing staff to grave medical risks and enormous suffering,”_ said a UASU statement seen by the Nation.

The union also complained of retention of staff pension dues since October 2015, and pension arrears from May 2014, currently amounting to Sh290 million.

The letter is signed by Mr Oumu, Mr Azihemba Mbai (Kenya Universities Staff Union secretary) and Mr Wilson Kemboi (shop steward), who have also complained of selectivity in payment for tuition services in the university’s parallel programme.

_“As interviews for the transition in the VC’s position draw closer, it would be prudent that the outgoing CEO account exhaustively for all institutional resources for which he has provided supreme overall control, especially the finance portfolio covering the last five years of his tenure,”_ demanded UASU.

The letter is copied to the Education Cabinet secretary, Education principal secretary, chief executive officer (State Corporation), vice-chancellor (Moi University) and UASU secretary-general, among others.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance Prof David Tuigong is among officials affected by the new changes and two others are in the accounts department. Their names are yet to be disclosed.

Contacted, Prof Tuigong declined to comment on the matter maintaining that the campus Vice Chancellor was well placed to give remarks on the issue.

_“It is only the University CEO who can comment on such matters,”_ said Prof Tuigong.

The University’s Council chairperson, Prof Jenesio Kinyamario, after a joint Senate and Council meeting held at in the Senate’s chambers last week announced that *Prof Esamai, Principal of College of Health Sciences* will assume the role of Prof Mibey (in an acting capacity), who was supposed to take a terminal leave pending the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.

*TERMINAL LEAVE*

Multiple sources revealed that the university administration has launched a forensic audit into alleged financial misappropriation running into millions of shillings.

Prof Kinyamario disclosed after council meeting that Prof Daniel Tarus of the Privately Sponsored Students’ Programme (PSSP) will act as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance, replacing Prof Tuigong in the new changes.

 _“Prof Mibey will proceed on terminal leave. In his position, the Council has approved Prof Esamai from the varsity’s College of Health Sciences to act as the Vice Chancellor until the period of service of Prof Mibey comes to an end,”_ said Prof Kinyamario.

Prof Mibey has been at the helm of the Institution of Higher Learning since September 2006 and his term is expected to end officially this September.

The outgoing VC is expected to return to the university to officially hand over the management of institution to the person who will be appointed by the Dr Fred Matiangi, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as the new Vice Chancellor.
Prof Mibey said last week: _“I thank the government and Moi University Council for having offered me opportunity to serve this great institution. I have enjoyed cordial working relationship with my Deputy Vice Chancellors and I hope the same will continue in my absence."_

_“I urge everyone to give Prof Esamai the necessary support that he requires to move Moi University forward.”_

*FINDING AMICABLE SOLUTIONS*

Prof Esamai promised to continue building on the good work initiated by Prof Mibey and to focus on the University challenges together with the Deputy Vice Chancellors in order to find amicable solutions.

_“I want to request that we all get down and address the challenges we are facing so that we move forward until the new Chief Executive is appointed,”_ said Prof Esamai.

Prof Mibey is the longest serving Vice Chancellor of the Moi University.

He took over from the current Commission of Higher Education chief executive Prof David Some who served from 2002 to 2006.

Others who served at the position are Prof Douglas Odhiambo (1984-1988), Prof Shelemiah Okoth Keya (1988-1994), Prof Justin Irina (1994-1988) and Prof Raphael Munavu (1998-2002).

On May 19, the university conducted interviews for those short-listed for the position.

Some of those reported to have been interviewed for the position include varsity’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Planning Prof Paul Chepkuto, the Rongo University College Principal Prof Samuel Gudu, Laikipia University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance, Prof Isaac Kosgey and Prof Ann Nangulu, the Commission of Higher Education Board secretariat.

ANOTHER TRIBUTE TO MOHAMED ALI " A MULTI CHAMPION"

The American boxing Legend Mohamed Ali passed away on 3rd June at the age of 74. Ali born Casseus Marcellus led a life worth celebrating and his name will remain alive over generations. Ali was not only a sports champion but also an icon in the fight against racism, human rights and protects his religion. Apart from being the only world’s three time lineal world Heavyweight Champion, Ali has left a legacy in several fields.

Casseus Marcellus was named after his father but he converted into Islam and changed his name to Mohamed Ali in 1975. His first expression of strong Muslim Faith was when he refused to be conscribed into the American army to fight in the Vietnam. He was quoted saying that war was against the Holy Quran unless declared by Allah, and he cannot take part in a war against Christians or non-believers.

Out of the ring, Ali was in the forefront in fighting racism and uniting blacks. Again in terms of joining the army to fight the Vietnam, this is what Ali said, ""My conscience won't let me go shoot my brother, or some darker people, or some poor hungry people in the mud for big powerful America. And shoot them for what? They never called me nigger, they never lynched me, they didn't put no dogs on me, they didn't rob me of my nationality, rape or kill my mother and father.... How can I shoot them poor people? Just take me to jail. "
In 1980, Ali landed in Tanzania in a Diplomatic Mission to lobby Tanzanian to boycott the 1980 Summer Moscow Olympics in order retaliate against Russia's invasion of Afghanistan. The Mission however failed because president Nyerere never turned up to meet him.

Mohamed Ali was also very influential through his speeches, articles, films and music. His most memorable speech was entitled Black is Black which he made to Howard University students. He also composed an album of spoken word in 1963 called I am the Greatest and a song Stand by Me in 1964 and his autobiography The Greatest, My own Story.

The world will wait for several years to find another icon like Him. A man who has been a vessel to fight for human rights, protecting them and being ready for what comes his way. His heart full of sympathy for humans and easy to fight for.

MADARAKA HELD OUTSIDE NAIROBI
The Jubilee administration has opened a new page in the Kenyan history by turning the heat of Madaraka celebration away from the capital city. The holding of a Madaraka celebration outside Nairobi is unprecedented in Kenya. Therefore, president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto made history on Wednesday by having the June 1st,2016 Madaraka celebration held in the kalenjin land, Nakuru.
Today, history has it that the 53rd Madaraka celebration was held away from 'No man's Land' Nairobi. It will be recorded that the first national holiday celebration to be held outside Nairobi was held in Afraha Stadium, Nakuru. This is the genesis of Jubilee's plan to hold different national holiday celebrations in various towns of Kenya other than Nairobi.
Many Kenyans who have since independence attended the Madaraka celebration at the Nairobi-based grounds were on Wednesday disappointed when they realized that the Madaraka celebration was going to be held in Nakuru. It raised jitters among some Nairobians who have always reaped big from the Madaraka celebrations always held in the capital city. While some made an effort to reach Afraha Stadium to attend the ceremony, others claimed to have just bicycles that could have only made them arrive at Nakuru at the end of the ceremony if not in the evening. Surely, you cannot know what you have been getting until you begin to loose it.
Interestingly, the former Prime minister Raila Odinga had also received an invitation from President Uhuru Kenyatta to attend the ceremony in Nakuru. This came soon after the CORD coalition announced their parallel rally at Uhuru Park. Agwambo claimed that the invitation was late and so he had no option but to proceed to the Uhuru Park rally as planned. However, the military chopper that Uhuru ordered to ferry Raila to Nakuru for the Madaraka rally is still waiting!
Noticeably, Kenyans were on the Madaraka day motivated by leaders from both the government and the opposition who preached peace and unity except the Deputy President William Ruto who expressed his hatred nature for the official opposition leaders, especially,Raila Odinga. Perceived hate, as usual with Ruto, was evident in his facial expression and tone as he condemned the opposition leaders for stimulating demonstrations over the IEBC.
William Ruto's sentiments have not always augered well with the opposition. For instance, the opposition kingpin Raila Odinga has been on the receiving end of Ruto's constant attacks. This was mostly evident over the ICC fixation drama and the Eurobond saga not forgetting the NYS fuckery. Surprisingly, the opposition leaders who are in bad books with Ruto are senior politicians who have taken decades in the political limelight. Such political tactics are symptoms of failed regimes and would be compared to a heavy downpour in the ocean.However, we hope for better political tactics as the clock ticks towards 2017 general elections.

THE REIGN OF MIX

With less than thirty working days to the awaited Moi University Shoppers Organization (MUSO) election, the political divide among comrades is evident. Comrades are already supporting their tribes (wo)men in the name of our tribe must be represented. So unfortunate.
The word mix has become so common, common than the common courses offered in the faculties. Comrades prefer mix to policies. Believing in what a 'polititian' can do to comrades before elected than after elected. They say that SGC is not for the poor since they are a threat to MUSO kitty. In other words, all aspirants are the same except their bank and financial statements.
It is so unfortunate that majority of comrades have ceased thinking of electing leaders who can represent them and who can advocate for the well being of the union. Our main point of focus is in the number of crates of sodas they can buy, rather than the content and what aspirants know of the union. Am yet to see an aspirant who has something substancial to offer apart from sodas and settling bills in robpol hotel. Am yet to hear an aspirant planning to bring investors and motivational and career speakers to main campus. Someone planning to bring a cooperate to main campus. But the kind of aspirant we interact with, none is thinking of such. It is time we start thinking beyond proposals and mix.
Moi University should undergo a political reassertion for comrades to elect and have a good student governing council (SGC) and not selected group of cowards (SGC) as we have. If we continue electing people based on their tribes and coalitions, i can place a sure bet that ten year to come there will be no change in leadership style. The percentage of impurity in our mind is so high.

ON RELATIONSHIPS

And then on this issue of relationships, I believe a relationship is meant to take its own course. You don’t sit down and plan that course. You simply do what you can in the present, take on a habit in the now that could contribute in one way or another to that future.

Like basically, I don’t understand when people stress over the question; “where do you see this thing going?” Even if you have to ask that question in the first place, then it’s going nowhere. A relationship should progress naturally at its own pace.
It may be 10 years perhaps when it gets serious. Perhaps it won’t even get serious. Or you will not even get married but you will stay together and have children. But don’t try to impose your artificial boundaries and directions on a relationship, give it the space to grow.

Because you know, I don’t have to ask my friends, “where do you see this friendship going?” As with friendships, so with relationships. You have to focus on being your best, doing your best in the present moment of the relationship then hope that based on your best, the future will decide whether you are the right person to take it forward.

And the reason why most people never enjoy relationships is because they live in the future. They’re so concerned about whether they will break up or not. Whether he will finally commit, or rather if she won’t cheat. That doesn’t’t matter. Focus on the present, that’s the only real thing. We have no power to influence the future, but we can do something in the present that indirectly counts in that future.
So you know, if you are in a relationship, give it all your best in the present. Don’t stress about the next 5 years or two or even one. Take this one day and give it all you can. Create wonderful memories together.
That’s it. No other secret. Whether you break up or not, you will have created wonderful memories together to look back on and smile.

Fujo na vita vya kikabila hutokea mara nyingi baina ya wasomi vyuoni kutokana na siasa.Wanafunzi huwapiga wenzao na kuwajeruhi na hata wengine kuaga dunia kama nduli wasiowajua.Huu ni ukosefu wa utu na ishara ya uchochole wa maadili katika jamii ya wasomi.Walimu,Wanahabari,Wahandisi na Wanasayansi wa baadaye hugeuka na kuwa "Wanajeshi" chini ya Makamanda wanafiki.

Kura baadaye hupigwa na miungano mbalimbali ya kikabila kukidhi matakwa ya nafsi zao.Wao huwa na imani na matarajio kuwa ahadi walizopewa kama jamii katika jamii ya wanazuo zitaafikiwa.Viongozi hawa huwahudumia wanafunzi kutoka jamii zao kwa sababu ni wao waliowawezesha kuzichukua nyadhifa hizo za uongozi,jambo linalozua uhasama wa kikabila.

Hapa Chuoni wanafunzi wana mwelekeo hasi kwa viongozi waliowachagua wao wenyewe.Wamesahau viongozi hawa ni kioo halisi cha waliowapigia kura.Kila mara wanafunzi hulalamikia uongozi mbaya chuoni.Swali wasilojiuliza kuwa chanzo ni nini? Waliowatangulia walishindwa kuziba ufa na itabidi kujenga ukuta.
