University Students Petition Parliament To End Lecturers strike

University Academic Staff Union Moi University Chapter vice chair Elizabeth Owino(l) and secretary general Jack Willis Okumu( R) during a press briafing in Eldoret
University students today petitioned parliament over the prolonged lecturers strike that has entered its 42nd days today.

The Petition was signed by Moi University Nairobi campus chairman Edwin Kegoli, academic director Morgan Ochieng, assistant secretary general Perez Anzugira, finance director Gregory Anam and secretary general Dalman Muhamud.

“We humbly request police protection during the peaceful demonstration,” the five student leaders said in a statement.

“We have exams next month yet no learning has been going on for over a month now. Next Tuesday we will mobilise university students to hold demos along Harambee Avenue to show our displeasure if this matter is not resolved,” said Kegoli.
Harrison Talo, Multimedia University secretary general, said: "We are paying rent and bus fare yet no learning is taking place. The only course going on is intercourse."
Victor Njeru, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga university secretary general, said: "We cannot go on like this. Doctors and nurse are also on strike. This is now a striking nation."
Lecturers want the government to honour their 2013-17 Collective Bargaining Agreement. They have said they will not back down unless their demands for higher pay and better working conditions are met. Last week the dons rejected an appeal by the senate committee on education to return to work as they work a solution with the national government.

But the student leaders drawn from public and private universities noted that the strike has threatened the continuity of proper learning in institutions.

"It threatens the consistency and length of the academic calendar, academic extension and research activities," they said.

Their petition asks the National Assembly to stop the strike as it exposes learners across the country to "non-constructive" activities.

Lecturers want the government to honour their 2013-17 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The government gave the striking lecturers Sh10 billion but the dons rejected the offer saying they need additional Sh7billion.

“The assembly should realise that the continuity of the strike limits students from realizing their academic advancements and engagements,” it read.
The government offered the lecturers Sh10 billion to cater for basic salaries and allowances of staff at public universities, but they turned down the amount terming it too small.

They said they will only call off their strike if the state confirms that the Sh4.8 billion they were also offered was in addition to the initial Sh10 billion.

3RD YEARS: CHANGE IS WHAT WE WANT

Acting Moi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro (in tie) during a prompt visit to inspect the institution's environment.

The third years of Moi University-Main Campus have expressed there fury about the co-option of 3rd year representative in the student guild, MUSO 2016/17.

On Monday 10th October 2016, 3rd years representatives assembled in front of the student centre to chat the way forward before meeting at the Dean of Students office. They presented three letters that called for nullification of the co-option of a 3rd year MUSO representative, that MUSO elections to be held on February or March next year and/or stopping the process of electing or appointing a 3rd year guild representative.

The Letter demanding the nullification of the 3rd year co-option to MUSO had the reasons that; first, it could catalyze and propel discord among the third years and that it was driven by personal gains by specific leaders, another reason indicated was that it might fuel tribalism leading to MUSO funds mismanagement.

The other letters called for nullification of the co-option post and amendment of the MUSO constitution citing that only comrades consulted were below a percentage of 95%, the process is meant about community and not on the interest of comrades, the process of coopting of a 3rd year representative is an idea build on fishy foundation. It cited that the student guild is build on leadership rather than appointments and representation.

Citing the constitution, the students said that MUSO is a platform of preparing young leaders for future and outside leadership and that there must be a well defined platform in the constitution for the same cooption.

The letters also stated on altering of the supreme students document, the constitution, addressing that every student is a member and subscriber of MUSO and that the sacrificing a section of students denies them a chance to vote one of their own leaders. The issue of amending the constitution for early elections is to remove the co-option post regarded as unconstitutional.

Addressing the matter, the dean of students Prof. J. S. Ayieko termed the co-option void. The students demanded for a MEMO to officially communicate the development. The dean assured the students telling them that there will be a sitting over the weekend to look into the issues in details.

"We will be having a meeting over the weekend and look into the details especially the alteration of the MUSO constitution to give room for fully representation of the 3rd years," the dean said.

On the other side, the MUSO Editor-in-Chief, Private Socrates, was attacked and his eye glasses nearly destroyed by the said students. He was termed and identified as the symbol of disunity and division among the third years students.

The editor in chief had to run for dear life into the hands of the security police who came to settle the scuffle.

Prof. Kindiki, the dean of school of education gave hope of amending the MUSO constitution to be all inclusive.

"We will draft the constitution and the draft given to the Moi fraternity to go through it," Prof. Kindiki gave hope.

Lawrence Mwombo, a 3rd year student representative before handing the letters addressing the grievances, thanked the acting VC Prof. Laban Ayiro for the visionary change and his dream of Moi as one of the leading institutions of higher learning. The VC had promised the review of marks to end the missing marks "blackout", contraction of roofs on all pavements connecting main buildings in the institution, boost security through floodlights installation and renovation of hostels especially the dangling electrical wires inside hall of residence rooms.

The deputy vice chancellor in charge of students affairs, Prof. Ogechi promised a quick action will be taken to restore students confidence.

KUCCPS Makes Inter-university Transfer Easier, Online Applications Opened

By The Legacy News Desk

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) officially took over processing of admission of Government Sponsored Students to universities and colleges, which hitherto has been partially the responsibility of the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) formed under the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012.

Unlike JAB which only admitted students to public universities, KUCCPS has the responsibility of placing Government sponsored students to both public and private universities and colleges.

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Board (KUCCPS) is responsible for the placement of government sponsored students to universities and colleges, disseminating information on available programmes, their costs and areas of study as prioritized by the government.

The placement service is in charge of developing career programmes for students as well as collecting and retaining data relating to university and college placement. At the same time, KUCCPS is tasked with advising the government on matters relating to university and college students placement as well as performing any other functions assigned to it under the act.

KUCCPS has developed an online system which will make easy the process of inter university transfer in the country. Students will now be able to apply for inter university transfer via KUCCPS online application system.

Online-Inter-University transfer forms were made available as from 11 July, 2016. The forms will be made available for a period of two months.
The following are steps to facilitate Inter- University transfer in KUCCPS online system.

STEPS

1. Fill the form online, if the applicant qualifies, then he/she will download the form.

2. The applicant will then approach the institution which offers the Degree programme of interest to request for consideration and approval.

3. After securing the Approval to pursue the programme, the applicant will approach the University admitted for release.

4. The applicant submits the duly completed inter-University transfer form to KUCCPS for processing, after endorsement from both institutions.

Moi University Staff Call for the Sacking of Prof. Richard Mibey as VC

Moi University Staff Call for the Sacking of Prof. Richard Mibey as VC.

The Universities Academic Staff Union says Moi University has failed to remit statutory deductions for workers amounting to more than Sh1 billion.

The union said the university had not been remitting the statutory deductions to the NSSF, NHIF and other employee organisations for many years.
It wants a new vice chancellor appointed to end wrangles.

Anti-riot police were deployed after staff and students threatened to protest against the reinstatement of vice chancellor Richard Mibei.

Prof Mibei left the university two weeks ago after his term ended, but returned last Friday under unclear circumstances. He had proceeded on terminal leave and was to return in three months to hand over to his successor.

The Uasu Moi University Chapter secretary, Prof Jack Abok, said Mibei’s tenure as VC expired and his reinstatement by the government was illegal.

The recruitment process for a new VC has been completed and Education CS Fred Matiang’i is expected to name the new institution head.

Abok yesterday said tension is rising and acting VC Fabian Esamai should be allowed to take charge until a new VC is appointed.

“It’s wrong for the government to deploy police at the university instead of listening to the grievances we have raised and restoring order,” Abok said.

He said academic programmes have been interfered with because of poor management. “The interests of an individual should not supersede the welfare and lives of more than 40,000 students, lecturers and workers, among other Kenyans who depend on Moi University,” Abok said.

Uasu officials claim high-level graft had led to the loss of billions of shillings at the university and the EACC should probe it.

Yesterday, police camped at the university as reports indicated that both Mibei and Esamai were working in two separate offices. The management crisis has caused operations at the university to stall.

UASU-MOI UNIVERSITY CHAPTER WRITES TO EACC OVER GRAFT CLAIMS

The universities academic staff union has now written to the EACC asking for investigations into claims of Sh5billion graft at Moi University.

UASU secretary general Jack Abok on Saturday said they have presented a seven-page document detailing areas they want to be investigated.

"We have a seven-page document which elucidates the problems we have been facing due to financial mismanagement and we have sent the copies to the relevant bodies. We hope action is taken fast because there is the habit of spending money to cover up on the wrongs already done," he said.

The university is also caught up in a management row after staff and students rejected the reinstated of former VC Richard Mibei who had retired.

Abok said the loss of funds and misuse happened during the reign of Prof Mibey, an issue that made them engage the University Council in a bid to redeem the institution.

"Moi University is on the verge of plunging deeper into a management crisis and needs urgent intervention from government and other stakeholders. We engaged the council over these issues and among its resolutions was to send Prof Mibey on terminal leave, but it has allowed him to return on unknown grounds," he said.

According to Abok, learning facilities in the institution cannot sufficiently cater for the large number of students besides the neglect of lecturers' welfare.

In March, students of the University rioted against the two-month absence of lecturers over a salary dispute.

The West campus students destroyed a bus and threw stones at buildings before anti-riot police were called in, arresting more than 30 of them.

The university's director of the Privately Sponsored Students Programme, who is also in charge of the campus, said the problem was being addressed.

Student leader Kipng'eno Ruto faulted the university for not paying lecturers, saying more than Sh200 million in school fees was collected.

"The lecturers say they have not been paid for months and some are owed up to Sh2 million in arrears. We are wondering why they are not being paid yet we have paid fees," Ruto said.

COMRADES DIVIDED OVER DEMO

Perhaps goons were excited by the academics Director – Jairo Moses’ announcement of a mother of all demonstrations on Monday 20th June. The objective being to pressurize for the release of missing marks and academic results of students especially from the schools of education and Arts and Social Sciences.

According to the information posted on his Face book timeline, Jairo announced that all classes would be suspended and all academic activities paralyzed forthwith until the demand are met. The message was received by comrades differently especially on the Facebook Page Real Comrades of Main Campus where it was shared and discussed extensively. The always united comrades fraternity got divided into pro demo and anti - demo with each pact trying to convince the neutral ones.

A group which tended to represent second years supported the demo terming that it would be as peaceful and objective as possible.
However, there was a twist hours later when an aspirant in the academics docket posted a screenshot of his chat with the Dean School of Arts and Social Sciences, where the dean assured that the transcripts would be printed by Monday. This meant that the demonstration would be unnecessary

The Secretary General to Moi University Education Students Association (MUESA) again posted a memo with an anti-demo message. He stated that he had met the classesreps from the school of education and resolved to use other means to get their marks apart from the demo. According to Ojwang’, the class reps meeting resolved to follow the marks from the Head of Departments and not from the streets.

Nobody knows which side is stronger but it’s a reality that we are being used for either good or bad. With the political temperatures rising, demos are inevitable but we must make our decisions wisely.

*MOI UNIVERSITY VC DRAMATICALLY RETURNS AMID CLAIMS OF RETIREMENT

_*By J. MWANAWAKIUME*_

The row between staff and management at Moi University on Monday took a dramatic twist when outgoing Vice-Chancellor Richard Mibey made an about-turn and took back his position.

University officials denied there was such a development, claiming they were hearing it from the media for the first time.

_“We’ve not heard of anything like that, but we’ll issue an official statement once we get any information,”_ university public relations officer Alfred Wandera told the Nation.

However, a source at the institution contradicted this, claiming Prof Mibey was actually in his office on Monday.

_“I gather he’s been given three months. But I don’t see any picketing taking off. Just whispers in corridors,”_ a university employee, who requested not to be named, told the Nation in reference to an anticipated strike by staff against the VC’s return.

This came as three senior officials at the university were sent on compulsory leave over claims of financial impropriety in the battle to succeed Prof Mibey, whose term is coming to an end.

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU), through its Moi University chapter secretary *JackWillies Akum Abok*, announced that all staff at the university would be in strike mode beginning Monday until the financial impropriety claims are addressed.

Mr Abok said the union is demanding a forensic audit by an external, independent firm, adding that there is lack of transparency in financial management at the university.

_“The university is facing a lot of problems. Non-payment of medical bills incurred by the university staff has led to nearly all hospitals in Eldoret curtailing medical services to Moi University employees, exposing staff to grave medical risks and enormous suffering,”_ said a UASU statement seen by the Nation.

The union also complained of retention of staff pension dues since October 2015, and pension arrears from May 2014, currently amounting to Sh290 million.

The letter is signed by Mr Oumu, Mr Azihemba Mbai (Kenya Universities Staff Union secretary) and Mr Wilson Kemboi (shop steward), who have also complained of selectivity in payment for tuition services in the university’s parallel programme.

_“As interviews for the transition in the VC’s position draw closer, it would be prudent that the outgoing CEO account exhaustively for all institutional resources for which he has provided supreme overall control, especially the finance portfolio covering the last five years of his tenure,”_ demanded UASU.

The letter is copied to the Education Cabinet secretary, Education principal secretary, chief executive officer (State Corporation), vice-chancellor (Moi University) and UASU secretary-general, among others.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance Prof David Tuigong is among officials affected by the new changes and two others are in the accounts department. Their names are yet to be disclosed.

Contacted, Prof Tuigong declined to comment on the matter maintaining that the campus Vice Chancellor was well placed to give remarks on the issue.

_“It is only the University CEO who can comment on such matters,”_ said Prof Tuigong.

The University’s Council chairperson, Prof Jenesio Kinyamario, after a joint Senate and Council meeting held at in the Senate’s chambers last week announced that *Prof Esamai, Principal of College of Health Sciences* will assume the role of Prof Mibey (in an acting capacity), who was supposed to take a terminal leave pending the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.

*TERMINAL LEAVE*

Multiple sources revealed that the university administration has launched a forensic audit into alleged financial misappropriation running into millions of shillings.

Prof Kinyamario disclosed after council meeting that Prof Daniel Tarus of the Privately Sponsored Students’ Programme (PSSP) will act as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance, replacing Prof Tuigong in the new changes.

_“Prof Mibey will proceed on terminal leave. In his position, the Council has approved Prof Esamai from the varsity’s College of Health Sciences to act as the Vice Chancellor until the period of service of Prof Mibey comes to an end,”_ said Prof Kinyamario.

Prof Mibey has been at the helm of the Institution of Higher Learning since September 2006 and his term is expected to end officially this September.

The outgoing VC is expected to return to the university to officially hand over the management of institution to the person who will be appointed by the Dr Fred Matiangi, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as the new Vice Chancellor.
Prof Mibey said last week: _“I thank the government and Moi University Council for having offered me opportunity to serve this great institution. I have enjoyed cordial working relationship with my Deputy Vice Chancellors and I hope the same will continue in my absence."_

_“I urge everyone to give Prof Esamai the necessary support that he requires to move Moi University forward.”_

*FINDING AMICABLE SOLUTIONS*

Prof Esamai promised to continue building on the good work initiated by Prof Mibey and to focus on the University challenges together with the Deputy Vice Chancellors in order to find amicable solutions.

_“I want to request that we all get down and address the challenges we are facing so that we move forward until the new Chief Executive is appointed,”_ said Prof Esamai.

Prof Mibey is the longest serving Vice Chancellor of the Moi University.

He took over from the current Commission of Higher Education chief executive Prof David Some who served from 2002 to 2006.

Others who served at the position are Prof Douglas Odhiambo (1984-1988), Prof Shelemiah Okoth Keya (1988-1994), Prof Justin Irina (1994-1988) and Prof Raphael Munavu (1998-2002).

On May 19, the university conducted interviews for those short-listed for the position.

Some of those reported to have been interviewed for the position include varsity’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Planning Prof Paul Chepkuto, the Rongo University College Principal Prof Samuel Gudu, Laikipia University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance, Prof Isaac Kosgey and Prof Ann Nangulu, the Commission of Higher Education Board secretariat.

THE REIGN OF MIX

With less than thirty working days to the awaited Moi University Shoppers Organization (MUSO) election, the political divide among comrades is evident. Comrades are already supporting their tribes (wo)men in the name of our tribe must be represented. So unfortunate.
The word mix has become so common, common than the common courses offered in the faculties. Comrades prefer mix to policies. Believing in what a 'polititian' can do to comrades before elected than after elected. They say that SGC is not for the poor since they are a threat to MUSO kitty. In other words, all aspirants are the same except their bank and financial statements.
It is so unfortunate that majority of comrades have ceased thinking of electing leaders who can represent them and who can advocate for the well being of the union. Our main point of focus is in the number of crates of sodas they can buy, rather than the content and what aspirants know of the union. Am yet to see an aspirant who has something substancial to offer apart from sodas and settling bills in robpol hotel. Am yet to hear an aspirant planning to bring investors and motivational and career speakers to main campus. Someone planning to bring a cooperate to main campus. But the kind of aspirant we interact with, none is thinking of such. It is time we start thinking beyond proposals and mix.
Moi University should undergo a political reassertion for comrades to elect and have a good student governing council (SGC) and not selected group of cowards (SGC) as we have. If we continue electing people based on their tribes and coalitions, i can place a sure bet that ten year to come there will be no change in leadership style. The percentage of impurity in our mind is so high.

IT'S TIME TO TAKE CARE...

Are you tired of how people take advantage of your caring trait? Do you find yourself enslaved to anyone who is willing to have you in their life? The fear of upsetting people always steer your thoughts into the direction that let them benefit from it more than you did. That fear is what causes you to say sorry way too much often. It’s what caused you to go to college even though you didn't want to, it caused you to get a degree in something you didn't want because your parents told you to. It’s what causes you to drag out a relationship you secretly wished ended months ago. This is what causes you to stay in the job you hate and get paid the wage that you didn’t like. How exhausting is having to constantly put others before yourself and how little reward you get at the end of it?

You have heard the phrase "you teach people how to treat you" but you've ignored it so far. May be its because when you did try to stand for yourself it always seemed to have backfired as they yelled, cried, cursed your name and swear to never forgive you. This scared you right? And since you are too concerned and so caring about other people's feeling you gave up. You might have finally snapped and told others to let you be which they deserved to hear only to find yourself being labelled as too aggressive.Well dear who gives a damn?Who realy cares what  others think or say?Let me just remind you-it should not be you.

Sometimes people need to hear what they need to hear without that sweetness in your tone. This is what we call setting healthy boundaries.Try it and you will see how good it feels. Not the snapping part, but for expressing your true feeling. From that, people will start to show you more respect. They will start taking you less for granted too.

Make yourself comfortable with being with you. Get to know yourself, what makes you happy and what interest you.Be selfish. Now it's time for you to show them how selfish you can really be when taking care of yourself.Acting upon your own interest  is not being insensitive to others it's simply living your life.

Do not apologize for the change. Ever, do not go over in your head, how u should have reacted differently, how you shouldn't have said what you said and so on. Stop it! The acceptance of your peer and loved ones is a luxury and not your responsibility. Your responsibility is to make yourself proud and happy. The rest is for them to realize your worth.,

I’m not suggesting you stop caring about other people but you should first care about yourself.

Bra-less Fashion Trend Takes Over Universities, Team Mafisi Excited

Gone are the days when seeing a woman’s nipple was once in a blue moon affair. Last year it was pantyless, this year, it’s bra-less.
The bra-less trend started at Mary Stuart hall when girls begun leaving their rooms to lectures without bras. This was common on Mondays and Fridays. It was under the guise of being busy or lazy or having washed their bras the night before.
Suddenly other girls picked up the trend. “Bras were making us uncomfortable. There is a certain freedom that comes with abandoning the bra. You really feel emancipated,”says Bridget Munezero a Mary Stuart resident.
On Fridays in night clubs, when she hugs you, her pointed b**bs will send electric shocks down your pants and your wallet will automatically open.
Next time you see girls wearing tops with veering nipples, relax, it’s the trend and you are the local one

UGANDA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY TO EXPEL STUDENTS GUILD PRESIDENT,MINISTERS FOR INSULTING THE VICE CHANCELLOR

News reaching our news desk shows that Uganda Christian University (UCU) home to the most holy university students in Uganda is likely to expel the the students guild president Mr. Nyikirize Pius from the institution for allegedly insulting the vice chancellor Rev. Dr.Ssenyonyi.

Yesterday the guild president in company of four of his cabinet ministers and Secretary general were summoned to the university disciplinary council to give reasons for students defiance at the closure of last semester, for the first time in 19 years UCU students held a demonstration over what they cited as ‘unfair adjustments’ in fees.

The angry students gathered at Agape square at the university demanding answers from the university administration over why students activity fee had been increased from shs 63000 to shs 70000.

After failing to capture the attention of the deputy vice chancellor in charge of Academic affairs,Dr.Benon Musinguzi, the group moved to the students boardroom hoping to have the matter resolved.

It was there that the students met Dr.Musinguzi and argued that the university council had made the resolution without consulting the students guild. The university council which sat on November 26th,2015 resolved that the other fees would be increased from the previous academic years from shs 667000 to shs 893,000 for the academic year 2016/2017.

Other fees include development fee(shs 430,000), medical fee(shs 70,000), students activity fee(shs 70,000), examination fee(shs 80,000), computer fee(shs 100,000), book/library fee(shs 90,000), and registration fee (shs 53,000).

On failing to agree with Dr.Musinguzi on how the resolution was made, the students demanded to meet the university vice chancellor Rev Dr. John Senyonyi.
The vice chancellor was forced to abandon an ongoing council meeting to address the students who kept heckling him, over the matter. Some students who declined to be named for fear of expulsion argued that they were unsatisfied with what was going on.He maintained that the increment in other fees shall affect only those students whose first year of admission begins in may 2016 semister implying that those students who are continuing shall not pay the increment

LAIKIPIA COMMUNITY MEMBERS JOIN STUDENTS IN DEMONSTRATION.

By STELLA GACHOHI
Reporter: LAIKIPIA UNIVERSITY

Tension is still high at Laikipia University even after the university was indefinitely closed last week.

Villagers and residents surrounding the university today joined the students in a demonstration and could be heard chanting that the vice chancellor must leave the institution.

The villagers who make up as shop owners and hostel managers complained of continuous loss making since most students have already go to their homes.

This comes after the university staff workers downed their tools last Friday.

Students have then been left waiting for communication from the school administration on when to report back.

Shock as missing Moi University student found dead in a river

A former Moi University student who disappeared mysteriously early this month was found brutally killed and dumped in a river in Thika. Shukri Mohammed, 24, went missing from his mother’s home in Kaptembwo estate, Nakuru town, on April 4 at around 8.35am. His body was recovered by police officers dumped in a river in Ol Donyo Sabuk on April 8.

According to the family, Mohammed’s eyes had been gouged out, his tongue cut off and his hands and legs tied with a piece of rope. Mohammed’s brother, Mohammed Hussein, said he learnt about the death from social media, where news of the same went viral.

“I learnt about the death of my brother from my friends on social media, who stated that a body of a man dressed in a kanzu had been spotted in a river and later taken to City Mortuary,” said Hussein.

He said the family went to the mortuary but it was almost impossible to identify their kin because his body was mutilated.

“The body was mutilated and the only thing that helped us identify him were his teeth and toes,” said Hussein.

His mother, Halima Tacho, said it is unfortunate for him to have been killed at a time they were expecting him to graduate. Mohammed had studied business management purchasing and supplies and was expected to graduate in August this year.

Tacho said on the day he went missing, he woke up at around 4am, prepared a meal and prayed. She said he was fasting. Tacho said that after he ate, her son received a phone call from a friend, who asked to meet him in Nakuru town but he insisted he wanted to attend prayers at Jumuia Mosque first.

“My son left the house at around 8.35am, saying he was headed for prayers in town and would later meet a friend then come back home,” said Tacho.

At around 1pm, she said she tried calling him but he did not pick her calls - his mobile phone was later switched off.

“I tried getting in contact with his brothers and friends to establish if anyone knew where he was but nobody knew,” she said.

When she failed to trace him, the family reported the matter at Kaptembwo Police Post on April 6, but were referred to CID.

However, while at the CID headquarters, Tacho said officers showed her a photo of Mohammed’s friend, the one who had accompanied him, but that they could not explain how they obtained it.

“It was clear the CID officers knew something about my son’s disappearance,” she said.

The family is now calling on police to open investigations into the mysterious disappearance and killing. Nakuru Police Commander Hussein Barua said police have intensified their investigations.

Busitema University Lecturer: “Stella Nyanzi is a Worthless Attention Seeker.”

Dr. Stella Nyanzi’s actions of undressing not only show the intrinsic mediocrity but failure to discover her worth!

I have always respected Gayaza girls, but her actions depict a product that’s light years behind civilization.

If you know your self worth, when persecuted at point A; across the road they will welcome you with open arms. If she knew her worth, universities world over would have been happy to take on, may be, may be they after all saw something was amiss! She has demeaned her alma mater; employers and womanhood!

It makes no logical sense for a PhD holder to refuse to transfer knowledge through training intergrated MPhil/PhD program. With a PhD student, research work becomes easy because they (MPhil/PhD students) do the donkey work and you co-author publications.

Stella Nyanzi to be arrested on Minister’s order

After Ugandan professor decided to strip naked, police are now after her

Ugandan professor Dr. Stella Nyanzi, has created uproar, rage and support in equal measure after she decided to strip naked in protest after her boss locked her office.

Nyanzi claimed her boss was forcing her to teach at the university while she was only contracted to do research work and not teaching.
“I have thrown my clothes outside Prof. Mamdani’s office. I am naked as I cry out for my office,” she posted on her Facebook page.
Her Facebook page was taken down for a few hours before being restored again after she had posted the video.

Nyanzi also chained herself at the University in protest before the university gave in her demands and let her back to the office.

Nyanzi also accused her boss Mamhood Mamdani of giving his wife three offices spaces at the university including a toilet while locking her out.

Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) director Mamhood Mamdani issued a statement on Saturday, April 16 explaining the background to the decision to remove Nyanzi from her office at MISR  after she had refused to teach in the MPhil/PhD program.

“In her application for the post of Research Fellow at MISR, she assured senior staff that she intended to teach in the PhD programme in line with resolutions passed by the University Senate in November 2011 and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education in July 2012,” Mamdani in the statement indicated.
But in a letter dated August 5, 2014, Nyanzi denied her she signed a contract that stipulated she teaches at the university.
“My contract with Makerere University does NOT include any teaching duties. In our verbal discussions, I have constantly refused to teach on the MISR PhD which was started after I was appointed into my current position. I have never indicated that I will teach on the PhD next year. The advertisement for my position did not include any teaching job responsibilities because MISR was not a teaching institute at the time. As far as I am concerned, my terms of employment have never officially changed,” Nyanzi wrote in her letter.
Nyanzi’s stripping outside the office of Mamdani and her posting the video online, brought her into trouble with the government as now she could be charged for indecency and pornography.

Uganda’s  Ethics and Integrity State Minister Simon Lokodo has ordered police to arrest the Makerere University professor.
“Even if she was offended by anybody, she behaved indecently. I condemn it in the strongest words possible and I have directed police to arrest her. She must be brought to book,” the minister told New Vision on Monday, April 18.
According to Lokodo,  Nyanzi will now be charged under the Anti-Pornography Act, if she is found guilty under Clause 3 of the Act, she will get a two-year jail sentence or a fine of 500 currency points or both.

Apart from her undying love and support for Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye, Nyanzi is regarded as a woman who is not afraid to use sex and sexual organs in describing day to day events or opinions.

Nyanzi is a medical anthropologist with a PhD from the University of London based on ethnographic fieldwork of youth sexualities, sexual and reproductive health in The Gambia.

She has fifteen years of social science research experience in rural southwestern and urban central Uganda, in the broad areas of heterosexual behaviour in the time of HIV/AIDS, adolescent sexual behaviour, female control of sexuality, transforming masculinities during the AIDS epidemic, the gender differentiation of reproductive health, alternative healing.

Her research, specifically dealt with Balokole Pentecostal healing of HIV/AIDS and transforming performances of death, disposal and widowhood.

Her current research at MISR comprises ethnographic inquiry into the politicisation of homosexualities in contemporary Uganda – with a focus particularly on unpacking mainstream religious framing of and contestations about sexual citizenship.
