The Negative Reaction of Teenagers Towards Entertainment Literature

 According to Newtons's third law of motion,whenever two objects interact,they exert equal and opposite forces on each other(every action force has an equal and opposite reaction).Now,in the context of literature and society,the same reasoning could be applied,the transformative purpose or function of literature,which implies that both the reader and a literary piece have a reciprocal experience at a particular time and place.It poses the nortion that the effect of a literary piece is felt through interaction from the audience.All forms of literature;novels,poetry,music,videos that involves creativity impacts on an individual through their interaction and how they interpret the contents.

Human behavior is also flexible and can be altered at any given time due a person's contact or exposure to whatever makes him/her happy.At adolescence,teenagers have a tendency of wanting to experiment everything that they come across.This therefore,could give an explanation as to why there has been a sudden and abnormal change in the behaviors of our school going children,both at primary and secondary levels.Cases of early pregnancies,twisted sexual orientations,drug and substance abuse as well as student-teacher relationship in the recent past have gone up with or without a case study,it is evident.

The society has failed to make teenagers realize the need to treat sex as a responsibility and not pleasure.Their exposure to sexual content through entertainment literature has reciprocated their urge to try and experiment whichever idea is portrayed there with.In the context of Kenyan music,to be specific the so called gengetone genre which has a huge teen following,our children have been poisoned with the dirty lyrics that the artists openly utter to their ears.Most of which promote sexual immorality in their videos yet we have accepted such kind in our society.Most parents have introduced their young girls to family planning giving them a justification to engage in premarital sex whenever they like.As a result,they irresponsibly fall to sexual chemistry without protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

There is no universal religious assent to same sex relationship.If I take the advantage to ride on the provision of the[american democracy under president obama]that,through the supreme court that accorded dignity to same sex marriage (BBC NEWS-26th June,2015).This movies has seen many western movies incorperate the idea of same sex relationship as part of a society.For instance,watching Tyler Perry's "The Oval" where a character Kyle is in love with another male character Don to an extent of confronting Don's wife.Similarly,watching Netflix's "who killed Sara?" you encounter other two male characters who date and goes to the extent of wanting to raise a child.These movies regardless of whatever they portray have effects on our kids when they watch them.Gayism has never been an African thing.If we never had same sex relationships when the african parenting never allowed the interaction of boys and girls traditionally,why have it now when we have mixed primary and secondary schools and institutions of higher learning?

Drug and substance abuse has also gone up in our schools.It is a problem teachers face but no rational combat mechanism has been developed.If an investigation could be carried out right now to determine this,then the results will shock the world.Taking you back to the current teen's favorite music genre-gengetone that publicly praise bhang smoking and other drugs,appeal to our teens both boys and girls.Believe me,I am a teacher and this children will tell you they smoke in form of a joke in class when they mean it.As a result,it gives them the courage to approach teachers who look young in their hallucinated consciouness.Take your time and watch the video of the song "Kimangoto" by Boondoks gang featuring Timmy Tdat and you will get the whole idea.They make it appear normal a male student harassing a female teacher and vise versa,and in reality when you take action,they have the advantage.Our society believes a student more than a teacher when it comes to defense.

Literature is good,entertainment as well.Transormation in the modern societal set up is productive.Negative transformation is like a self processed poison.Bowing to the pressure of destructive literature will eventually yield a rotten society where obscenity and unethical behavior will be the new normal.Our teenagers should be guided.Guidance and counseling departments in schools should be active.Parents should teach their children on sex from the onset of their adolescence.

University Students Petition Parliament To End Lecturers strike

University students today petitioned parliament over the prolonged lecturers strike that has entered its 42^nd days today.

The Petition was signed by Moi University Nairobi campus chairman Edwin Kegoli, academic director Morgan Ochieng, assistant secretary general Perez Anzugira, finance director Gregory Anam and secretary general Dalman Muhamud.

“We humbly request police protection during the peaceful demonstration,” the five student leaders said in a statement.

“We have exams next month yet no learning has been going on for over a month now. Next Tuesday we will mobilise university students to hold demos along Harambee Avenue to show our displeasure if this matter is not resolved,” said Kegoli.

Harrison Talo, Multimedia University secretary general, said: "We are paying rent and bus fare yet no learning is taking place. The only course going on is intercourse."

Victor Njeru, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga university secretary general, said: "We cannot go on like this. Doctors and nurse are also on strike. This is now a striking nation."

Lecturers want the government to honour their 2013-17 Collective Bargaining Agreement. They have said they will not back down unless their demands for higher pay and better working conditions are met. Last week the dons rejected an appeal by the senate committee on education to return to work as they work a solution with the national government.

But the student leaders drawn from public and private universities noted that the strike has threatened the continuity of proper learning in institutions.

"It threatens the consistency and length of the academic calendar, academic extension and research activities," they said. 

Their petition asks the National Assembly to stop the strike as it exposes learners across the country to "non-constructive" activities.

Lecturers want the government to honour their 2013-17 Collective Bargaining Agreement. The government gave the striking lecturers Sh10 billion but the dons rejected the offer saying they need additional Sh7billion.

“The assembly should realise that the continuity of the strike limits students from realizing their academic advancements and engagements,” it read.

The government offered the lecturers Sh10 billion to cater for basic salaries and allowances of staff at public universities, but they turned down the amount terming it too small.

They said they will only call off their strike if the state confirms that the Sh4.8 billion they were also offered was in addition to the initial Sh10 billion.

UGANDA: Uganda Christian University Student Commits Suicide After Finding his Girlfriend Cheating

Reports coming through to us have confirmed that a final year student of the Uganda Christian University [UCU] in the department of Economics apparently took his own life for granted on Monday evening (29/09/2016) in his residence after catching his girlfriend with another guy red handed.

The young man identified as Tugume Samuel who used to reside in Banda is said to have been an Electrician irrespective of his studies and through this job he was earning money he was using to take care of his girlfriend (names withheld) plus paying of her tuition fees. 

Apparently a guy who saw Samuel yesterday morning confirmed that the deceased had a problem with his girlfriend after finding her with another guy at the campus hence ending up killing himself because he has been sponsoring her with tuition when she promised to marry him after studies

Malvin Eshitera who was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information technology at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, suffered severe bleeding after he was allegedly beaten up by some students over a girl.

According to his big brother, Malvin had been exchanging bitter texts by his ex-girlfriend , but there were no death threats involved.

One suspect has been arrested, after blood stains were found on his shirt, as further investigations continue.

MOI UNIVERSITY NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS WOKE UP TO SAD NEWS OF THEFT

Yesternight a group of crude armed thieves broke into three residential rooms at Talai Shopping Centre
(Stage) and went away with valuables. In one of the rooms the thieves confronted a student and stabbed him as he tried to stop them.

Fortunately one of the thieves was identified and was mob beaten before he was set on fire. Before he succumbed he named his compatriots and confessed to have chopped the head of a bodaboda rider in the area.

Early Saturday 2(26/11/2016) morning a number of students were involved in a road accident as they were going for mentors tour organized by their club. The Nissan Matatu they were travelling in veered off the road and turned several times killing one. Several serious injuries have been reported and admitted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Kadenge Shines At EAC Dialogues

The 5^th East Africa Community Youth Dialogue which was held on 31^st October to 4^th November took place in Kigali Independent University, Rwanda. Over 3000      applicants had applied for the same but only a few made it. Among the qualifiers were 6 Kenyans, two from Moi University; Gibson Kadenge from Main Campus and   Opere Kelvin from School of Law (Annex). EAC consists of 6 countries, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan which was officially joined last month. All EAC countries were expected to attend but Burundi did not due to poor diplomatic relations with Rwanda.

This was an important event because EAC belongs to the people and it gives an opportunity to the youth to work and interact with members and EAC countries.

During the dialogue, Moi University was praised for their good job and acknowledged for representing Kenya well thanks to Kadenge and Opere.  Following the theme of the Dialogue, “The role of the Youth towards electoral        democracy” the two showed prowess in Youth and EAC integration.

The dialogue did not end in Kigali as Gibson Kadenge is set for the World Youth Conference which will be held in India from 12^th-15^th November. The theme of the        

Kadenge takes this opportunity to promise comrades and the Youth at large to present Kenya well and encourages all youths especially Moi Varsity students to take advantage of such opportunities.

Moi University student found planning to join terror group ISIS

Kenya has been grappling with the threats caused by terror groups, especially the Somalia-based al-Shabaab.

The al-Shabaab has caused havoc in the country, with its sympathisers sneaking back and killing innocent civilians. 

The latest was the attack in Mandera town where 12 people were brutally murdered in a hotel by the militants.

Kenya has also been battling radicalisation of youths by terror groups.

This was the scenario in Kizingo in Mombasa when a Moi University student was found planning to join terror group ISIS.

ISIS material was found in his computer and phone

Hassan Kassim Hassan was apparently found with information related to the terror group in his computer and phone.

He was arrested and arraigned in a Mombasa court and was not allowed to respond to charges.

Kassim has apparently been radicalised

The government wants the suspect to be held for 15 days so as to complete investigations. 

The court will determine his fate Thursday, November 3.

Strathmore University boy kills niece, drinks blood (photos)

A Strathmore University student in Narobi has murdered a baby belonging to his cousin's wife who he was living with.

It was a horrific, ritual-like death in the middle of the night.

It has been reported how he stormed inside the woman's room at around 3am. Her man was not around.

She slept with her room half-closed as she never expected an attack from inside the house.

Her first thought was that the young lad wanted to rape her. She wanted to talk him out of it but the lad had other ideas. He told her that he wanted the blood of her young daughter. 

In the scuffle that ensued, he stabbed the woman and took the young girl from her mothers arms.

Before leaving the room, he took the woman's phone and dragged the mortified girl to his room.

In his room, the report goes, he broke the girls head and drank her blood. All the while, he was calling on the mother to say goodbye to her daughter. 

After the horrid act, he ran out of the house and got out of the estate via the fence. He was arrested the following day and he awaits trial. 

A trip to his Instagram shows a few posts that he had made in reference to the girl. He used to call her his little friend.

Neighbors have linked him to a devil-worshiping cult.

Sotik man who bragged about sleeping with minor freed

A man who posted pictures on Facebook bragging for sleeping with a class four girl in the bush has been set free.

Calvin Ambane Alfayo has been freed on a Ksh 10,000 bond days after he was arrested in Sotik.

Alfayo was arrested following a public outcry from Kenyans after he bragged on social media for engaging in sexual intercourse with a 10-year-old girl.

Sotik OCPD Jonathan Ngala had confirmed Alfayo's arrest a week ago hours after police launched a manhunt for him.

The man shocked Kenyans after posting a confession of Facebook claiming to have engaged in sex with a Class four pupil.

The post which has pictures of Mbane, with the girl lifting up her top, angered social media users who called for his immediate arrest.

Alfayo who hails from Makenene, Nyamira county was identified as the son of a local Member of the County Assembly.

His facebook timeline was filled with shocking sexually explicit posts of him glorifying sexual escapades with minors.

3RD YEARS: CHANGE IS WHAT WE WANT

The third years of Moi University-Main Campus have expressed there fury about the co-option of 3rd year representative in the student guild, MUSO 2016/17.

On Monday 10^th October 2016, 3rd years representatives assembled in front of the student centre to chat the way forward before meeting at the Dean of Students office. They presented three letters that called for nullification of the co-option of a 3rd year MUSO representative, that MUSO elections to be held on February or March next year and/or stopping the process of electing or appointing a 3rd year guild representative.

The Letter demanding the nullification of the 3rd year co-option to MUSO had the reasons that; first, it could catalyze and propel discord among the third years and that it was driven by personal gains by specific leaders, another reason indicated was that it might fuel tribalism leading to MUSO funds mismanagement.

The other letters called for nullification of the co-option post and amendment of the MUSO constitution citing that only comrades consulted were below a percentage of 95%, the process is meant about community and not on the interest of comrades, the process of coopting of a 3rd year representative is an idea build on fishy foundation. It cited that the student guild is build on leadership rather than appointments and representation.

Citing the constitution, the students said that MUSO is a platform of preparing young leaders for future and outside leadership and that there must be a well defined platform in the constitution for the same cooption.

The letters also stated on altering of the supreme students document, the constitution, addressing that every student is a member and subscriber of MUSO and that the sacrificing a section of students denies them a chance to vote one of their own leaders. The issue of amending the constitution for early elections is to remove the co-option post regarded as unconstitutional.

Addressing the matter, the dean of students Prof. J. S. Ayieko termed the co-option void. The students demanded for a MEMO to officially communicate the development. The dean assured the students telling them that there will be a sitting over the weekend to look into the issues in details.

"We will be having a meeting over the weekend and look into the details especially the alteration of the MUSO constitution to give room for fully representation of the 3rd years," the dean said.

On the other side, the MUSO Editor-in-Chief, Private Socrates, was attacked and his eye glasses nearly destroyed by the said students. He was termed and identified as the symbol of disunity and division among the third years students.

The editor in chief had to run for dear life into the hands of the security police who came to settle the scuffle.

Prof. Kindiki, the dean of school of education gave hope of amending the MUSO constitution to be all inclusive.

"We will draft the constitution and the draft given to the Moi fraternity to go through it," Prof. Kindiki gave hope.

Lawrence Mwombo, a 3rd year student representative before handing the letters addressing the grievances, thanked the acting VC Prof. Laban Ayiro for the visionary change and his dream of Moi as one of the leading institutions of higher learning. The VC had promised the review of marks to end the missing marks "blackout", contraction of roofs on all pavements connecting main buildings in the institution, boost security through floodlights installation and renovation of hostels especially the dangling electrical wires inside hall of residence rooms.

The deputy vice chancellor in charge of students affairs, Prof. Ogechi promised a quick action will be taken to restore students confidence.

KIBAKI IN PUBLIC APPEARANCE AFTER NECK SURGERY

After undergoing a neck surgery  in a South African hospital, retired president Mwai Kibaki is now fully recovered if his first public appearance since he came out of hospital is anything to go by.

Kibaki when he attended mass at the Consolata Shrine today Sunday, September 25.

Kibaki attended the 12 o'clock mass, his first ever Sunday church outing since he was admitted at Netcare Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg South Africa.

He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, August 25 after he fell ill while at his Muthaiga home.

Kibaki was first rushed to a local hospital before being flown out to South Africa where he was operated on his neck to remove a blood clot in an artery.

Kibaki was admitted at Netcare Sunninghill Hospital in Johannesburg South Africa

Kibaki was in the high-end health facility for one week before he was given a clean bill of health and allowed to go home.

But he spent an extra week in South Africa so as to recover fully during which only close family members were allowed to be near him.

Kibaki was operated on his neck to remove a blood clot in an artery.

The president  has been suffering ill heath and his sickness on August was his third stroke.

The week is ending in grief due to the sudden demise of a student at the school dispensary. The lady identified as Carol Nkatha was a second year in the school of arts and social sciences taking counselling psychology. The cause of death still remains unclear.
FOURTH YEARS STRANDED OVER CLEARING AND REBOOKING DIRECTIVES
The fourth years have remained confused over the directives given by the accommodation department and the director of accommodation. According to a memo released early this week, the fourth years were required to clear out of their rooms and acquire their clearing codes before they leave for their short holiday. A memo then followed shortly from the ICT stating that the retaining of rooms begins 15th to 20th August. Days later, the director of security and accommodation also gave his directive that no fourth year should clear from his room until further directions from him. As the deadline approaches, most elders are still stranded on whose directive to follow.
DIRECTOR’S GRAMMATICAL INEPTITUDE ASHAMES ALL COMRADES
Moi University comrades are walking with their heads down after a director’s Facebook post full of grammatical incompetence deluges social media. The Facebook post by the secretary general was posted a week ago after he attended one of the student leadership conferences. However, it was full of nursery grammatical mistakes. Though the post was deleted 5 hours later, screenshots had taken the post and it was all over comrades’ forums. To make matters worse, the story has appeared on one of the national dailies this week. The post quoted” Thanks be to God and my fellow comrades of Moi University. I enjoy the privilege of attend University students leadership Forum at KCA University-Nairobi.”
THIRD YEAR SCHOOL OF EDUCATION TP BRIEFING
Prospective teachers today received a briefing from the teaching practice coordinators. According to the Teaching practice Coordinators and the MUESA officials, the exercise which is set to begin in January 2017 will be as smooth and successful as poissible. Among the issues touched by the coordinators include discipline and patience during the exercise. The stations and the TP materials will be provided at the end of September this year. All students have been asked to be patient and patient enough on their posting. Represented by the dean was the renowned Dr. Kegode.
MU 32ND GRADUATION CEREMONY
Moi University is set to conduct the 32nd graduation ceremony for the 2015/16 academic year for candidates who qualified for various diplomas and degrees awards on THURSDAY 22ND and FRIDAY 23RD September 2016. According to the news posted on the university website, the schools of Arts and social sciences, Education, Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management will have their graduation on Thursday 22nd while those in the school of Business and Economics, Human Resource Development, Engineering, Information Sciences and those from Garissa University College will graduate on Friday 23rd. Both will take place in main campus at the Graduation pavilion from8am.
The graduants are also informed to pick their graduation gowns from Monday 19th to Tuesday 20th September 20 16 from their respective schools and returned before 28th September

RAILA TALKS ABOUT IEBC FAILURE IN UK

CORD leader Raila Odinga has taken the discussion on getting rid of the current Kenya's electoral body a notch higher in United Kingdom where he had gone to deliver a lecture at Catham House on "The Importance of Democracy in Africa;Kenya's Experience".This was on the sidelines of the crowing of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party US presidential candidate.
The former premier utilized the international platform to criticize the country's levels of democracy saying they have been orchestrated by the lack of an accountable Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC).Putting Kenya among other African nations with struggling democracies, Raila said despite regular multi-party elections, there is still no direct translation to good governance and respect for rule and law and freedoms.
The opposition doyen further put the international community on the spot saying they are mandated to protect democracy in African nations.
"These efforts (on democracy) in Kenya and elsewhere in Africa need the backing of all forces that believe in democracy," said Raila.He added: "They require that the US and the
EU must do more for democracy; fight corruption, defend Internet freedom and media freedom and protect democracy activists.
The CORD bigwig said that since the numerous multiparty election have not yielded much, there is need to focus on building more free societies, create clear cut of separation of powers, independence of the media and the judiciary, devolution of power and resources, restriction on presidential power and also respect for term limits.
Referencing on countries like Senegal, Djibouti Rwanda, and Malawi whose economic growth rate is above six per cent above Kenya's, Raila noted that countries that have adopted accountable and democratic governance systems have made strides on the social and economic front.
"These countries are reaping the democracy dividend that ensures sound management of public resources and political stability through regular, credible elections and peaceful and predictable transfers of power," Raila said.
Raila said Kenya (and Africa at large) has become a country where elections are being
viewed on how peaceful they are and not how free and fair they should be: "The performance of incumbents is getting judged by how they can be used to fight terrorism no matter the human rights abuses that accompany the fight and the economic gains that come with doing business with those regimes."
He warned that despite all the gains a country might have made, just one electoral cycle is enough to wipe it all out.
"After 2007, Kenya was suddenly thrust into a political crisis following a botched election. From an 8 per cent annual rate of growth, we dropped to a miserable 2 per cent in 2008 after the post-election violence," said the CORD leader. "That is why since 2013, Kenya's Opposition has demanded fundamental reforms to the electoral infrastructure as the surest way to safeguard democracy," he added.
Raila said his team is pursuing reforms to the system of voter registration, the counting of the votes, result transmission, and announcement of the results.
"We are pushing an electoral body that operates in a truly open and transparent manner with an obligation of complete disclosure of all its operations in the conduct and management of elections," said Raila.

Video: Man claiming to be Jesus Christ aressted in Uganda

Police in Uganda have arrested a man claiming to be Jesus Christ. Police officer Lamech Kigozi, on Saturday, July 2, said Emmanuel Solomon Ssemakula, the man son of God, would be would be taken to court for leading a cult.

“We are currently looking at a charged of convening an unlawful society,” Kigozi told NTV Uganda.

The self-proclaimed Jesus Christ could also be charged with sabotaging government programmes as he instructs his followers not to go to the hospital when ill. All they are to do is to pray to him.

“When they fall sick, they only kneel and pray and ask for blessing from this earthly Jesus (Solomon Ssemakula),” the police officers said.

Despite all the said charges, Solomon Ssemakula has maintained that he is Jesus and he is not afraid to publicly declare so.

“It’s me Jesus Christ, Emanuel, prince of peace, Michael… I was born in Jerusalem,” he said.

His followers, who have been with him for about six years, also believe that he is indeed Jesus Christ.

Solomon Ssemakula said he was preparing his followers for the second coming of his father. He is on a mission to select 144,000 people for the said coming.
Ssemakula was orphaned at a tender age but was lucky to get someone who sponsored his education.

His sponsor then took him to Kenya and Tanzania to spread the word of God before going back to Uganda.

Isaack Mwaura to ditch CORD for opposition

The opposition coalition CORD has suffered another setback after its Nominated Member Isaack Mwaura announced he would be ditching the opposition for the ruling Jubilee.

According to KTN News, Mwaura says he will be vying for Ruiru parliamentary seat in next year’s elections on a Jubilee ticket.

The Mp announced this in the company of Kabete legislator Ferdinand Waititu.
Waititu speaking in the same function urged ODM Secretary General Ababu Namwamba to also decamp to the ruling coalition because they have the government and will win in 2017 General Elections.

“We tell Ababu Namwamba to decamp from the opposition to the ruling coalition. We have the government and come 2017 we will retain the government,” Waititu said.

On his part, Mwaura said that national politics can’t be conducted by questioning an Mp why he talked to a particular leader.

Mwaura was nominated by Orange Party to represent people living with disabilities.

He added that he is driven by ideologies and he will join the party that embraces good ideologies to enable him clinch 2017 Ruiru Parliamentary seat.

“Its time to look for votes and people have freedom to choose whoever they prefer,” Mwaura said.

The only girl who survived the Kisii-Kilgoris accident is dead

Kenyans across the divide have registered mixed feelings over the ghastly Friday, July 1, accident that cost 6 University Girls their lives.  The accident happened at Etora near Sameta in Kisii county.

The only girl who survived the accident passed on while receiving treatment at the Kisii General Hospital.

Information that keeps cropping up has it that the girls were drunk at the time.  Driving late in the night posed a danger  for the driver who was not used to the meandering Kisii roads.

On social where gory photos from the accident were posted by witnesses who were at the scene, Kenyans registered  mixed feelings about the accident.  Most people were genuinely remorseful while scores other felt that the accident was the girls’ undoing.

The Kenyatta University girls who were involved in a grisly road accident, Six of them died on the spot while one succumbed to her injuries at a Kisii hospital.

A lorry collided with two cars including theirs. From the collusion, only three people survived and were rushed to Kisii Level Five hospital with serious injuries.
