LEARNT LESSONS

By JEMEDARI Mwanawakiume

The rain poured after a long week of dusts and many considered that a blessing.

As the sun set and the moon struggled to come through from the clouds that still covered the sky, love which is meant to make people live long was taking an Egerton university six feet under.

It is a story of Love gone sour,a story of partners who have had difficulty in their stay together that the only option seem to be left with the Man of the house was to Kill his lover and maybe escape.

It is reported that at around Seven in the evening the neighbors to the late Sharon Mmbone who until her untimely death was a students at Egerton university in the faculty of education and community studies taking history and Religion heard some commotion and screaming coming from the house, something they considered normal till they saw smoke engulfing from the room and rushed to check what was happening. Upon their arrival, they had had to put off the fire through the window because the door was locked from inside. It is said that her lover had set the mattress on fire so as they would all die in the smoke together with their baby who remains alive and full of health to today.

All this time from the scream put out by the lady, she was being knifed mercilessly. The screams went off ,a thud on the floor and Sharon Mbone was no more. Its then that the neighbors managed to break in and grab the baby from the killer before descending on him with stones and metals the mob justice way.

The incident happened in Njokerio, the boyfriend too later succumbed to the beatings moments after police arrived at the scene.

Sources on the ground hints at the possible cause of this sad happening to be the fear to face up with the responsibility that comes with being a a father since its reported that the baby was only a week old.

Sharon’s boyfriend according to the residents was not a student ,they have had issues together to an extent of Sharon being disowned by her family. The bitter part of this love story is that the two forgot that they had an innocent child to look after.

As their bodies rest in the mortuary ,the child who still now cannot know what happened and where the parents are needs proper maintenance and care.

Its true most campus students are into relationships. Love is a beautiful thing. Love is from God. The problem is the people in love. Strive to know your partner and value what is important in life. Above all,

“DO NOT LET SEX MAKE YOU A WIFE BEFORE LOVE MAKES YOU A WIFE.LOVE IS A HEADACHE ONLY CURED BY MARRIAGE”

May the souls of the two Love Birds rest in eternal peace and may their story teach many.

SWEET and SOUR LOVE

By ADHIAMBO Mercy

LOVE is something beautiful, a desire, a feeling that one would like to catch. LOVE is the feeling that makes you feel alive. LOVE is something that may never go away. Love is forever, only the partners change .Love surrounds us like light. We are warmed by the charm of our devotion. When someone else’s happiness is your happiness that’s love. Love is the same for a poor man, and a king. Love is when you have the chance to leave but choose to stay.

Love is the killer of creativity, this is evident in all cases where you find two grown ups do nothing as adults but make silly decisions like eloping all in the name of love. Mature brains stop thinking where love begins. Some have even gone to the extent of opting to have nothing rather than each other but let's be realistic for once; will this love without work bring food on the table or serve you with a bed of roses? Love with your heart but also take your mind with you.

Love is both the best and worst feeling a human could ever have. Its best when you are treated good with your partner and the feeling of having someone who cares a lot about you. It gives one the morale to carry on till eternity and in that search for eternal love comes the worst feeling. One may not be ready for a lifelong commitment hence a disagreement comes up due to contradiction of thoughts and expectations. That is why I insist on taking your brain with you as you love.

A lot of sacrifices are made for love but some are stupid and unreasonable. You find a guy who has no future living with a lady who has not even informed her parents of her whereabouts as if they are married. If you can’t inform your parents why live together? Its immaturity of the highest order..take your brain with you in love. Love is the best and the worst all the same.

HELL BREAKS LOOSE AS Ex CS WAIGURU IMPLICATES DUALE AND MORKOMEN IN NYS LOOTING

By DOMINIC Charles

It staggers the mind to think that the embattled former CS for Devolution Ms Ann Waiguru could swear an affidavit and shade more light on the dark track of how she hacked a conspiracy to defraud the government of KSHS.1.2billion working in cahoots with some national actors like Hon Aden Duale and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchunba Murkomen.
Waiguru claimed that when the NYS looting jamboree hit the road, the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Hon Aden Duale and Senator Kipchumba Murkomen were key players in the saga. The good madam Waiguru further explains that it was for that reason that Aden Duale forced some Jubilee MPs to withdraw their signatures from the motion to impeach her that was filed by the anti-corruption buster and Nandi Hills MP Hon Alfred Keter. This has left Duale tweaking in the cold and flip flopping in thoughts and has prompted him to make contrary statements to his previous utterances.

Aden Duale's press statement of last Wednesday raises more questions than answers on how this country is run. For instance; Duale claimed that Waiguru stole money allocated to NYS projects. When did he or his bosses in the coalition establish this? Does he know it's criminal to a bet economic crime as enounced in our statutes?

The former comrade of Moi University also claimed that "they" sacked Ann Waiguru after "she stole". The burning question is; Does Hon Duale exercise presidential powers to hire and fire members serving in the Executive?

Also, if memory serves me right, l can vividly remember how Ann Waiguru was invited to appear before joint committees of parliament investing the NYS fraud. The session was characterized by high octane politics ostensibly geared at sanitizing her. Immediately after the session, Duale marshaled a coterie of Jubilee MPs to a hurriedly convened press conference where he (Duale )heaped praises on Waiguru's performance in" putting the record straight ".At that time, did Duale know that he was lying to the Kenyan public in clear violation of chapter six of our constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act and the Public Officers Ethics Act?

Comrades, remember also that Hon Aden Bare Duale, the Garissa Township MP concluded his statement by saying that it would deem fit if Waiguru visited the Mathare Hospital for mental check up or if she would have been routing in the Kimiti Prison.Does Duale really know how favorite madam Waiguru is to president Uhuru Kenyatta?

Finally, when Hon. Raila Odinga trained his guns on Waiguru, State House is on record to have come to her defence. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy duped Kenyans by describing Ann Waiguru a whistle blower. Surely, with all these accusations and counter accusations flying round and still hot in the devolution airwaves, what did the president and the State House operatives know at that material time? Can we conclude that the priests of corruption with the help of their altar boys are determined to sweep the dragon of corruption under the carpet?

Untill When??

By OPANDA Christine

As last year’s form four students wait eagerly for the release of the results which will be done on Monday 29th February 2016; things are heating up in Vihiga County. Teachers at Keveye Girls Secondary School in Vihiga County were filmed canning students mercilessly.
The government had banned corporal punishment, particularly canning, in schools in 2002. This rule only seemed to have worked in school found in the city, Nairobi, but not in the interior parts of the country. Students who learnt from these parts especially Western and Nyanza can attest to this.
In those parts canning never stopped, in fact it got worse. Some schools up to now have specific places where the canning takes place, nicknamed as “slaughter house” or even “suffering square”.
A report revealed the students lined up like cows in a slaughter house, terrified as they wait for their turn to be beaten. The footage which was posted on Facebook on Tuesday shows four teachers, standing in line and heavily canning the students in the school’s staffroom. The learners are then passed over to yet another teacher waiting at the door for more canning.
Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr Matiang’i who made an impromptu visit to Keveye Girls on Thursday morning, said he was compelled by media reports about heavy canning of students in Western Kenya. The CS ordered for a swift disciplinary action against the teachers.
The question remains what form of punishment is appropriate in schools because both reward and punishment are forms of shaping behavior of an individual. Most teachers believe in canning because they either excelled because of canning or they are not aware of other forms of punishment such as punishment through naturalism.
Since assuming office in November, Dr Matiang’i has taken the ministry by storm; visiting institutions and holding school heads to account on site, tough talks on school fees and responsibilities in schools. The matter of corporal punishment is still an issue that should be taken into deep consideration, especially in the prominent places that happens, Western Kenya.

WIMBO MPYA WA TAIFA

.....Licha ya kufeli kutimiza manifesto.....kuna mengi ambayo si machache alioitimiza....

By WANYONYI Simiyu

Rais Kenyatta a'li hai

AFRICA’S DISILLUTIONMENT

Yoweri Museveni....elected for another term as Uganda’s president after 30 years

By MAINA George

We are in Africa where thieves are canonized and saint demonized. It seems as utter audacity for Yoweri Museveni to be elected for another term as Uganda’s president for 30 years of reigning since 29th January 1986. Though Museveni have brought relative stability and economic growth in a country that has endured decades of rebel activity and civil war, I don’t understand why Uganda chose to canonize Museveni and demonize Kizza Besigye. Africa at large has leaders whose fingers itches to cling to power till death.

Africa should let the new vibrant blood with vim to be injected to the countries for sustainable growth and development. Why should one be in power for three decades and yet desires another term? Is it for someone’s patriotism or simply to enrich themselves?

Africa at large needs youthful leaders who can smell the future and do what it takes to bring the change we need.

The dictatorship nature of leaders once they assume power demonized Africa and her people; hence the USA presidential aspirant has the guts to and utter chutzpah to say that Africa need to be decolonized. Donald Trump, a business mogul should then come to Africa and teach us how to mature as a continent. African leaders at particular has the freedom to oppress the poor without question and hence the motion by President Kenyatta for Africa’s mass withdrawal from the ICC. This won’t make Africa any better.

Africa has been faced with many situations of perplexity due to leaders extending their terms. The quandary in Burundi, South Sudan seems to take stage in Uganda though the elections seem to be promising. African leaders fight for freedom of expression, neo-colonialism, equality but once they assume office, they become the oppressor. President Museveni fought liberation wars in Mozambique when he was a student at University of Dar Es Salaam. Ugandans thought he would be the best president but lots of challenges have faced Uganda since he assumed power.

Rwanda’s Kagame and Kenya’s Kenyatta are not different. They have led their countries a stray as they enrich themselves leaving the masses to be faced with problems. There is disillusionment with our African leaders.

CAMEL TOES ARE DISTURBING INDEED

A camel toe is when a lady's pants are so tight that you can clearly see the lips of the vagina outlined in them

By DOMINIC Charles

No doubt, 'The shoe wearer knows where it pinches most'. However, many shoe wearers of this digital world are totally clueless about the pain of the pinching shoe. Instead, they mistake that pain to be the gist of modernity. We can therefore conclude that whoever formulated the sagacious adage must have overlooked many things pertaining fashion.

A camel toe is when a lady's pants are so tight that you can clearly see the lips of the vagina outlined in them. There is nothing as mortifying as directing everybody's eyes on your lady parts. You should do everything within your jurisdiction to keep your privates private. You should always do a spot check if your pants are tight lest you find out that your camel toe is out and roaming rogue when you are already out of the hostel, maybe to the church. A camel toe is very unflattering and will distract guys from noting anything else about you but only the.... It goes without saying what the hearts of such guys will desire.

For instance, last Sunday, my roommate “Ronny” was physically present in church but mentality watching a movie. We had entered the church spiritually ready for the service. We headed straight to a place where there were three seats vacant. We secured two and one remained vacant. Shortly after we were seated, there came a lady stealthily tiptoeing to the seat. She was dressed in a tight trouser and a pair of high heels. All attention in the church saluted her arrival since her uncomfortable shoes were also uncomfortable to the silence that existed between the congregation and the priest.

As the service continued, many including myself concentrated on the pastor in an effort to a message from the 'Good News'. It was not until the offering basket was near us that I noticed “Ronny’s” eyes glued on the lady's abdomen. I ignored that and reminded him to 'Give God what belongs to God'. Little did l know that my roommate's mind, soul and heart were away from God. This must have propelled me to condemn the camel toe.

Ladies should take care of their bodies; generally let’s keep our bodies holy for there are Gods temples

GHARAMA YA WANAHABARI

By SIMIYU Wanyonyi

Walimaliza wahenga waliponena, ukistahi mke ndugu huzai naye.

SUPREME COURT JUDGES SHOULD QUIT EN- MASSE.

By ODEROH Kenn

When Kenyans were clamoring for a new constitution, one of the central issues of concern was the state of the judiciary. For many years, the Kenyan Judiciary worked at the best of the Executive and took orders from the president and his subordinates on how to rule on the matters that government expressed as interesting.

The Kenyan Judiciary had become one of the most corrupt institutions in Kenya and it was openly mocked by the general public who asked why one needed to hire a lawyer when they could buy a judge.

One of the solutions adopted by the Kenyans in the 2010 constitution was the creation of a supreme court, with the intention of being constituted from the top most jurists in the Republic, who would ensure that they gave the country a legal environment which sub-services to the Executive and corruption could not exist.
But from the very onset, the Kenyans Supreme Court suffered a credibility crisis arising from its composition because there was a widely-held belief at that point in time that some of the judges proposed to it missed the mark of a classical Supreme Court Judge. Without necessarily mentioning names, the widespread expectation of Kenyans was to see our top Jurists appointed to the Supreme Court as opposed to some of the appointed Judges whose very track record is littered with mediocrity in performance.

Most of the rulings which have so far emanated from the Supreme Court have been legally deficient and wanting in technical substance. Kenyans expected very well-thought-out and widely researched rulings from the Supreme Court, which has not been the case. A case in point is the Presidential Election Petition Ruling of 2013 where Kenyans expected a classical and authoritative ruling that could act as a point of reference fir African election disputes, as opposed to the three- minute ruling that was delivered by the Kenyan Supreme Court. Even the detailed ruling that was later released was reminiscent of a term-paper compiled or perhaps dubbed by a Law student at the Parklands Campus of the University of Nairobi.

Next were numerous Election Petitions for other positions, especially those involving Governors that ended up at the Supreme Court. There has been widespread speculations and allegations that the Supreme Court judges were bribed to rule in favor of the Governors. Whereas it is not for me to determine the veracity or otherwise of these allegations, my position remains that in a civilized society, once you hold such a position of a judge, then your credibility must be beyond reproach. If at any slight instance your acts of omission or commission are deemed to be inconsistent with Chapter 6 of the constitution, the very constitution that you swore to and vowed to protect, then the most logical thing to do is to pave way for other Kenyans of commensurate, if not better invaluable experience, competence and moral standing to come in and exercise the functional mandate of the highest court on our land.

By and large, Kenyans have not felt the impact of the Supreme Court by way of its ruling. There is no landmark ruling that has emanated from this court, be it politically, economically or socially. The current Supreme Court judges have therefore become irrelevant but also unwanted by their subjects. Most Kenyans now view this institution as a place where Justice is on sale to the highest bidder.
Kenya is not short of legal brains. Something must just be done.

THE LEGACY'S SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, Instagram and Twitter have become an integral part of everyday life for millions of people around the world. As The Legacy grows to serve the audience well beyond the publishing, social media is becoming an increasingly important aspect of our interaction and our transparency with our audience and with a variety of communities. Properly used, social networking sites can also be very valuable news gathering and reporting tools and can speed research and extend a reporters contacts, and we encourage our journalists to take advantage of them.

The line between private and public activity has been blurred by these tools, which is why we are providing guidance now. Information from your Facebook page, your blog entries, and your tweets even if you intend them to be personal messages to your friends or family can be easily circulated beyond your intended audience. This content, therefore, represents you and The Legacy to the outside world as much as a published story does. As in all of your reporting, the Code of Ethics should guide you in your use of social media. You should read and be sure you understand the Code.

What follows are some basic but important guidelines to help you as you deal with the changing world of gathering and reporting news, and to provide additional guidance on specific issues. These guidelines apply to every member of The Legacy (both current and aluminus).

1. First and foremost you should do nothing that could undermine your credibility with the public, damage The Legacy's standing as an impartial source of news, or otherwise jeopardize The Legacys reputation.

2. Recognize that everything you write or receive on a social media site is public. Anyone with access to the web can get access to your activity on social media sites. And regardless of how careful you are in trying to keep them separate, in your online activity, your professional life and your personal life overlap.

3. Use the highest level of privacy tools available to control access to your personal activity when appropriate, but dont let that make you complacent. Its just not that hard for someone to hack those tools and make public what you thought was private.

3. You should conduct yourself in social media forums with an eye to how your behavior or comments might appear if we were called upon to defend them as a news publication media. In other words, dont behave any differently online than you would in any other public setting.

4. While we strongly encourage linking The Legacy social networks, you may not repost The Legacy COPYRIGHTED material or link your PERSONAL BLOG to The Legacy's social networks without prior permission. For example, it's NOT o.k. to link from your blog to the The Legacy site, and you should not copy the full text or audio/video onto a personal site or Web page. You may accomplish this through The Legacy Online/Web Editor or widgets that The Legacy provides to the public under the same terms of use as apply to anyone else.

5. Remember that the terms of service of a social media site apply to what you post and gather on that site. The terms might allow for material that you post to be used in a different way than you intended. Additionally, law enforcement officials may be able to obtain by subpoena anything you post or gather on a site without your consent or perhaps even your knowledge.
Remember the same ethics rules as apply offline also apply to information gathered online.

6. Journalism should be conducted in the open, regardless of the platform. Just as you would do if you were working offline, you should identify yourself as an The Legacy journalist when you are working online. If you are acting as The Legacy journalist, you must not use a pseudonym or misrepresent who you are. If you are acting in a personal capacity, you may use a screen name if that is allowed by the relevant forum.

7. You should always explain to anyone who provides you information online how you intend to use the information you are gathering.

8. When possible, clarify and confirm any information you collect online by later interviewing your online sources by phone or in person.

9. While widely disseminated and reported, material gathered online can be just as inaccurate or untrustworthy as some material collected or received in more traditional ways. As always, consider and verify the source.

10. Content gathered online is subject to the same attribution rules as other content.

11. Socia Media communities have their own culture, etiquette, and norms, and be respectful of them.

12. And a final caution when in doubt, consult with your editor.

Social media is a very dynamic ecosystem so dont be surprised if we continue to revise or elaborate on our guidelines at a later date. In the meantime, we welcome your feedback.

Most Important, we want to encourage you to use social media approaches in your journalism but we need to make sure that you are fully aware of the risks especially those that threaten our hard-earned reputation for independence and freedom from bias or our brand.
