SHOCKING: Police Uniform, Blood Stained Knives Found in Nairobi University Hostel

Police who had been called in after claims of gangs operating from the University of Nairobi surfaced were shocked to recover weapons, bhang and other paraphernalia.

Officers from the Special Crimes Prevention Unit, Flying Squad and the Anti-Narcotic Unit on Saturday, April 9, recovered 25kgs of bhang, nine pangas, blood-stained knives, police boots and sweater, security guard uniforms, money making machine and fake notes.

All this was recovered from Hall Nine where criminals are believed to be operating from, reports The Star.

The security officers carried out the raid following a tip-off that criminals were operating from the city centre-based public university, posing major dangers to fellow students and residents of the city.

The operation came days after the university was closed indefinitely following student riots opposing the election of Babu Owino for a third term.

The students believe Babu rigged himself to power, defeating his closest rival Mike Jacobs by a big margin.

During the riots, the angry students torched the Students Organisation of the University of Nairobi (SONU) offices in main campus and stoned motorists along roads near the university.

A day later a video emerged showing police officers beating students mercilessly, claiming they were UoN students.

However, police denied and said they were investigating the video to ascertain its authenticity.

Following the riots, NACADA chairman John Mututho claimed that there were cartels in the university peddling drugs and selling them within and without the institution.

He further alleged that the drug barons are being protected by top police officers.

His sentiments, however, attracted the wrath of Inspector of Police Joseph Boinett who ordered that Mututho reveals the drug barons he knows and that he records a statement over the same.
