Blow to opposition as its governor declares he will support Uhuru in 2017

Jubilee has scored yet another win against the opposition after a governor allied to the latter declared he would throw his support behind President Uhuru Kenyatta come 2017 polls.

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka said that he will be working with the government in the coming elections because he expects to benefit a lot.
According to the New Ford Kenya party leader, his county will get enough support from the Jubilee administration unlike the opposition which has nothing to offer.
“I am not mad when I say that. It is because I know that Jubilee will form the next government and I don’t want to be in the cold,” Lusaka said as quoted by Star.
Speaking in Uasin Gishu county where he had attended thanksgiving prayers for Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang ICC victories, the governor said that he is willing to lose his seat while in the government than lose it with the opposition.
He gave the analogy of a fly dying either in a milk pot or a toilet, saying he is that fly that would rather die in a milk pot.

“Where I come from they say that a fly can either die while in the milk pot or in the toilet. For us we would rather die in the milk pot,” Lusaka added.
His declaration was welcomed by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago who said Lusaka had made the right decision to join the Jubilee bandwagon ahead of the general election.
“He has always stood with us and we ask the people of Bungoma to re-elect him next year,” Mandago said.
Lusaka was elected on a New Ford Kenya ticket which is part of the Amani coalition under the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi.

Mudavadi was a presidential candidate during the 2013 polls but he came a distant third, behind Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

Lusaka on his part, has been in the news for a number of reasons. In 2015, he caused massive outrage when his county government purchased a wheelbarrow worth KSh4,000 at KSh109,000.

However, Lusaka was listed as the second most performing governor in Kenya after Machakos’ Alfred Mutua.
