Confidence is not left to a few people. We all have the capability of being confident, we just don’t know how to.
Shy
people tend to miss out on a lot of things simply because they don’t
socialise very well. However, the good news is that you can change it.
being shy is a state of mind and you can change that to being super
confident.
Below are 7 super points to move you from shy to super confident.
1. Act Confident
This
might sound a bit somehow but it’s the truth. The only way to be what
you want is to act it. Practicing how to be confident will eventually
lead to you being confident. You’re shy because of anxiety and fear of
failure, so why not act as if you have no fear and see how it plays out.
2. Engage In Small Talk
The
reason you’re shy is because you always feel uneasy and nervous when
with a lot of people. Why not try talking to just a few people at a
time? What about the person you just met at the till in the supermarket?
A “hello” or “how do you do?” won’t be out of place. What this does is
to boost your confidence in talking to people. Eventually, you’ll be
able to talk to a whole crowd.
3. Try New things
Shyness
leads to you being comfortable in a particular area. So to overcome it
and become confident, you need to try something new even if it’s
difficult and falls outside your comfort zone. A new hobby, sport, club
etc., are all new things you can try out. Once you’re able to take on
these new tasks, you’ve overcome your fear of failure and the unknown
which helps deal with your anxiety, a major cause of shyness.
4. Practice Effective Body Language
Confident
people are not superhuman, they have just mastered the art of speaking
and using their bodies to communicate. The way you carry yourself whiles
walking, talking etc., shows how confident you are. Begin walking with
your head held high. Shake hands with a firm hand and make eye contact
when talking to someone. This is probably the most important. Looking
into the eyes of someone you’re having a conversation with shows that
you have control over what you’re talking about.
5. Show Your Vulnerability
You’re
shy because you fear to be yourself and being judged. You fear to let
people know your weakness and you fear being branded a failure. What you
must know is that we all have our weaknesses so you’re not alone. So go
ahead, show your vulnerability when with people you can trust, let your
guard down and go with the flow. Once you begin doing that, you’ll
realise it’s not as bad as you thought and gradually, your
self-confidence will begin to rise because one major cause of shyness is
fear.
sure!
